In what is probably an indirect response to EA's claims of the 360 being maxed out, Burnout Paradise developer Criterion Games is saying that any developer that is claiming a system is maxed out, might be lacking creativity.

"That's proof that you're not the best," technical director Richard Parr told Eurogamer's Digital Foundry channel. "It means you're out of ideas."

"You always find new ways to do things, the constraints lift. Not just with a new console generation but with every game you do," senior engineer Alex Fry added. "Whether it's a sequel or whether it's a new game, you learn to do things differently... better. The constraints go away because you learn. While it's nice to say you've maxed something out, there's not really any point."

I thought every sane person knew that already. Anyone who thinks either is maxed out is an idiot.

Well, thats true in reference to EA. Although, to give them credit, they have come up with some good new IPs lately- ME, Dead Space.

EA does not deserve credit for Dead Space. If anything, they were ready to take DS down if Visceral Games didn't make a decent demo to impress EA.

Though any company would... Do you honestly think that every publisher/developer releases every project they come up with? EA like many developers toy with ideas and if they work they release them. EA deserve a lot of credit for the new IPs they launched last year. Lost them over a billion dollars in revenue. It was a risk that didn't pay off but in my mind the gaming industry is richer thanks to it. Sure games like Mirrors Edge and Dead Space wouldn't be out now if the demo phase was poor, but that is the same for every game at some point.

No, but I doubt every company is more intent on shooting down every project a studio comes up with. I'm just sure EA would've been more than willing to follow up on their yearly releases, sequels, and licenced games. Not to mention EA is one of the most successful publishers out there, it's not like they're struggling either.

Mass effect was made and released before EA took over Bio.

I've always figured this. I mean I used to be a programmer and I can tell you that if you've maxed out something in one way, there are still so many other creative ways to bypass all that and get more out of it using different methods. I think of a straight line from the bottom of a box to the top. It will quickly hit the top, but then it's not maxed . . . try curving the line, etc.
