To completely contradict Steve Ballmer and/or TGDaily's interpretation of Ballmer's words, Destructoid went to Aaron Greenberg of Microsoft to clarify Ballmer's words, in which he says that he probably meant "Natal" and not a whole new console. Go Dtoid for fact-checking a story before posting it :D

Speaking with Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg this evening on the phone, he reiterated the company’s stance, even in the face of recent rumors.

“I can tell you that we are not launching a new console in 2010,” Greenberg said in no uncertain terms.

When I half-jokingly asked him if Ballmer was privy to any hardware launch information he wasn’t, he easily laughed off the notion.

As far as what the CEO was referring to like we did, Greenberg seems to think there was a mix-up in the message. It was likely that Ballmer was simply referring to Project Natal, and perhaps used some words that might have been misinterpreted.

I read his speech and he honestly never said anything about it in the first place what he did say was in the lines of but not exactly quoted "in 2010 we are releasing new hardware that allows us to do motion tracking blah blah..." refering to natal, not a new xbox.

I don't understand where everyone is getting this "new hardware in 2010" crap. Journalists trying to put a unique spin on RUMORS to get more hits?

Seriously, NATAL is NOT an indication of new hardware. At the E3 media briefing, it was CLEARLY shown to be an add-on, which Microsoft stated would be compatible with ALL Xbox 360 consoles.

That is exactly what it ended up being. TGDaily, then IGN running with it, which of course I know I believed it (as did many blogs and what not).. after IGN (QUOTE) confirming (UNQUOTE) it. I could care less about TGDaily, but when IGN ran with it, I felt it was more concrete.. but sadly, I guess IGN is losing their credibility.
