For those who've thought that the co-operative feature in Dragon Quest IX will use the Nintendo WFC, Square Enix have officially given word that will clear up this confusion. Unfortunately, the co-op feature will make use of local wireless connectivity only. According to Square Enix, this has been the case since the very beginning.

There's been some confusion about Dragon Quest IX co-op play. Is it local only or does it using Nintendo's WiFi connection? Just imagine playing DQIX with faraway friends!

Square Enix PR clears up the issue with this: "From the beginning of development, co-op play hasn't been via WiFi, but rather DS wireless play."

So there you go, bye-bye confusion and bye-bye DQIX WiFi dreams.

Aw man, this is killing me. Because I know I'm the only in my local group getting this game. Are there any DS tunneling projects that work? Because now I could definitely use this.

I'm actually kind of surprised by this, and I'm sure I can't be the only person to think that the game was supposed to use the WFC. That's one of the whole reasons why I was excited about this game in the first place.

Haha I wouldn't compare it to FFCC since DQ's more like a traditional RPG with plot elements. But yeah, the lack of online co-op is definitely a huge blow to the game imo.
