What's up with analysts always being incorrect recently? First about the PS3 price cut and now this. Rockstar has now officially dismissed any rumours or speculation about a GTA IV delay. Rockstar has confirmed that GTA IV is on track for an October release. The game will still be released on October 16th in America and October 19th in Europe.

Two of of the biggest games due in 2007 are Halo 3 and Grand Theft Auto IV. As luck would have it, they're coming out within a couple weeks of one another - despite what you may have heard to the contrary.

Rumours prompted by an analyst note had it that Rockstar could delay Grand Theft Auto IV until November, but the company has come out today to deny the claims.

We contacted the company for comment and were told that the game is on track for release in "late October".

Grand Theft Auto fans have had October circled as the date for the arrival of the first Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 instalment since last year. Microsoft surprised many people by revealing in May that Halo 3 would be out in late September. According to one analyst, that could be a problem.

In a note to investors, relayed in part by GameDaily, analyst Michael Pachter speculated that troubled Rockstar parent company Take 2 could push back the release of Grand Theft Auto IV into its next financial year, which begins in November.

"We believe that a two-week delay would provide a reasonable gap between the launch of Halo 3 and the launch of GTA IV, and would actually help sales of both games," he wrote.

Rockstar's comments will come as sweet relief to GTA fans anxious to play the first game in the series for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

According to previously confirmed dates, Grand Theft Auto IV will be out in the US on 16 October and in Europe on 19 October. For more on the game, head to our Grand Theft Auto IV coverage homepage.

That should be quite an interesting match-up come October. I see Halo 3 pulling out a slim margin but again it depends on who can hype the most.

I guess this is good news. The two week delay wasn't anything to freak out about, though.

    *Insert sigh of relief here*

Great news for me! I'm barely waiting for this game, though there are things I would like fixed *cough cough* Planes.

    Good, it wont be delayed.
Contrary to bri, I can see GTA pulling out a close victory against Halo 3. Simply put, Advertising FTW.

Damn, this rumour did get to me, I have to admit. I really thought that Rockstar would delay it because of Halo...but they are keeping to their word and I respect them for that.

I just know that GTA will do very well, Halo or no Halo.

Nice one, the less delays the better if the game is close to full preparation.

It is going to be a great battle between GTA and Halo. Even so, we already know that both games are going to sell very well indeed.

I'm glad it won't be delayed but even if it was delayed for two weeks. I wouldn't care that much anyways.

Um guys this isnt something to be happy about. I mean sure its not going to be delayed but both systems are getting GTA, so how does this help ps3. This seems to be the better advantage to MS.

Though guys what if MS comes out saying were having major problems lately and halo will be delayed. Man the faces of those halo fans will be pissed and start a riot.
