If you are in the market for a new PC and wanted to get Windows 7, then Microsoft is doing you a favor. Similar to the Vista upgrade scheme when XP was "retired", they will be offering free upgrades for new PC purchases. But watch out if you're in Europe...

In the past Microsoft has given people already using Windows a chance to upgrade to a new version when it becomes available.

While that option will be offered in the US, Microsoft said its efforts to comply with competition regulations meant it could not do so in Europe.

Holy crap, i wonder if Microsoft realizes that they will lose a *bleep* ton of money thanks to this stupid stunt they've pulled.

Alot of Europeans will now be pirating Windows 7, I myself am happy with my Windows XP.

Way to go Microsoft, you goddamn idiots.

Not sure if the source article mentioned this, but it is important to note that upgrade Win 7 version, the one that is 50 and 60 bucks right now in North America, is good for both Vista and XP (of course presuming you are using a legitimate copy.)
