Square Enix Trying to Perfect the Art of Summoning in FFXIII

Apparently, Square Enix has come under some heavy fire regarding summons in Japan. While the reveal of the Shiva Twins concept was unique and amazing, they didn't quite get the same reactions from some of their Japanese fans regarding the Odin reveal. Motomu Toriyama, the director behind FFXIII, issued a short statement regarding what we can expect in the future.

We've seen two Final Fantasy XIII summons: the Odin summons from heroine Lighting (pictured) and Shiva from bandana dude Snow. The lady motorcycle summons, aka Shiva, is all kinds of unique.

It goes so far over the cliff that it bounces right back into awesometown. Lighting's Odin summons? Less so. The Japanese internet has been critical of it — calling the summons beast things like "rat face".

Final Fantasy XIII director Motomu Toriyama has issued a statement regarding the summons:

At E3, we thought let's show off the cool summons, and with overwhelming nervousness, we kind of blundered with both Odin and Shiva... Because of that, we're not showing the whole thing! Until we have another chance, we hope to keep perfecting them, so please wait only a little bit more.

    I don't blame the bitching. Odin is a freakin djenty, badass Norse God. That looks like something from the Nutcracker Suite.

    lol I didn't even notice his "rat face". I was more annoyed at the LACK OF FRICKIN' HORSE!

    But seriously, Odin just ain't Odin without his horse.

      Hahaha I never realized rat face either until I saw the picture. But an Odin without his horse is just plain weird. Like a king without his crown.

          Haha I think these guys are in the wrong game. Perhaps, Transformers would have been a better fit.

          But you know, I wouldn't be too surprised if they do pull that off with Odin. I'd actually be surprised if he transforms into anything else other than a Trojan Horse, provided he even has a drive mode.

          All summons have a Gestalt mode and the devs have 'hinted' that fans should be able to guess Odin's Gestalt mode.

          So it's pretty much a given that he turns into a horse. lmao.

          His shield even looks like a saddle.

    Good god I hate that they've took Odin off his horse, he's been on his horse since he started in the FF franchise =|

    I swear SE better get him on a goddamn horse and fix his stupid rat face before they release the game.
