From Kotaku comes the latest Fable series news citing a New York Times article in which Fable III is given a mention. While not official confirmation, the New York Times is usually correct about their facts.

Is Lionhead working on Fable III? In some capacity, almost definitely. Considering the success of Fable II, not developing a third game in the series would be throwing money away. But we didn't expect this kind of Fable III "confirmation."

So who's mentioning Fable III now? The New York Times, which is typically not wrong about much. More specifically, the Times "Weddings/Celebrations" section is talking about the next Fable game. Yes, Fable III is being mentioned alongside the announcement of Lionhead designer Joshua Atkins' weekend wedding. PR is so weird!

That certainly is odd, having a newspaper of that caliber "announce" the game.

Uh, they announced they were working on Fable 3 just after they finished the 2nd one did they not?

So this is a rather pointless article yes?

Not in any remotely official capacity. It was always known that there would be more Fable games coming, but the fact that it is being worked on already is new.

Didn't Molyneux say that Fable was planned to be a five game series?

Actually he said they hoped to put the Fable franchise up to seven or eight iterations.

Which is weird, seeing as it was for the longest time undetermined if even a sequel to the first was going to be made. While Fable 2 was indeed a success, I don't see the real demand for five MORE games, especially when the second one still had some of the same issues as the first.

Aight, five. Point is, I'm not completely sure if five iterations is really necessary. What they should focus on is making the third one the best it can be, and just leaving it at that. Not everything has to be turned into a continuing franchise.

Fable II was one of the best games of 2008, selling almost 3 million copies, why should they cut down the franchise to only three installments?

Wait, so...the New York times announced this game before any proper gaming stations did?

Okay, that's pretty messed up right there.

But, at least it's confirmed, that's what counts. Can't wait.

I haven't actually played any Fable games before, I was thinking
of getting 2, but if 3's going to come out at some point I can
just wait for that instead. I'm not desperate to try one out.

Everybody knows that Fable III is being worked on. I don't see the much of a point of making a big surprise out of its announcement.

as I said its not like it is a surprise to anyone, but its nice to have some semi- official word on it.
