The word hero is certainly becoming quite ubiquitous in the gaming industry these days. If you thought Activision weren't bad enough with their gazillion knock-offs, Gearbox filed trademarks for four games ending in "War Hero." This time the word's been registered by VPT Technologies, a company that creates exercise games. So what titles did they register? Why, Workout Hero and Fitness Hero of course! However, I do hope they realize that they have to actually put in an effort in making the game and the word itself won't sell a million copies for them.

Love or hate it, Guitar Hero is a huge brand. Activision has made it a point to trademark (insert music instrument here) Hero to capitalize on the success of the series. New trademarks popped up for Fitness Hero and Workout Hero, but…

… they aren’t from Activision. VPT Technologies, a fitness company specializing in exergaming (think Wii Fit) registered both names in the USPTO. No word on their plans, but their website mentions a web based fitness system.

Wii Fit was a smash hit. Guitar Hero sold millions and millions of copies. Can Fitness Hero piggyback on the success of both products?
