You remember how Marvelous Entertainment "feels like crying" over their software sales, right? Well, in an attempt to make light of their financial situation, they've come up with a few ideas. One of the ideas they brought up at their financial presentation was to start focusing more on multiplatform games, such as the upcoming Rainy Woods for the PS3/360.

The other option they had came up with was to begin porting Wii titles to the PS3 and 360. They haven't mentioned which games would be ported, but, as the article states, the games that feature little to no motion controls would be their best bet. Although, with the PS3 Wand and Natal coming out, it could be possible to transfer over a decent amount of the current Wii exclusives.

So could No More Heroes become into "No More Exclusive?" With Marvelous' "desperate struggle" at this point, the possibility certainly could be there.

Marvelous Entertainment backed the Wii in a big way with new series like Little King’s Story, No More Heroes, Arc Rise Fantasia, and Muramasa: The Demon Blade. However, sales of these games in Japan (Little King’s Story excluded, of course, since it’s only out in Europe) haven’t been stellar.

In a financial presentation Marvelous has a new plan for their rich library of properties. First, is moving into multi-platform PlayStation 3 / Xbox 360 development. I can confirm that Rainy Woods, Marvelous’ first title specifically made for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, is still in development. Their other strategy is porting some of their Wii titles to the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Muramasa: The Demon Blade and Arc Rise Fantasia aren’t heavy on motion control so I imagine these would be prime candidates to port. I’d welcome ports of either of these games too since more people would get to play them.

Enough about me. Which Marvelous games would you like to see on high definition consoles? I’ll start counting the votes for No More Heroes and No More Heroes: Desperate Struggle…

They'll sell just as much as they did on Wii. Putting it on the 360 or PS3 doesn't magically mean it'll sell more absolute units in Japan; the same levels of niche apply, so the sales will match accordingly. None of the games have the brand awareness similar to even that of the Atelier series: hence, if you want to go by this week's Media Create, these games are likely to track along the likes of Agarest Senki.

If it helps keep Marvelous afloat, then by all means, I'm all for it. But it'll be ridiculous to assume that just by the fact these games will be the holy boost they'll need. Games like this are pretty much doomed at retail in this current market.

Like they said before, advertising is an issue, and the PS3 and 360 are terrible at retail for niche titles in all markets, not only Japan. With the porting that they'll be doing, do they even have enough resources to get the word out?

Whatever, I'll be supporting Marvelous all the way.

As long as Marvelous keeps making games for the Wii, I'll happily keep buying them, even if they try and port stuff over. I echo Akira's post entirely though.

As an aside, I thought Muramasa did better than expected in Japan?

29,525 units sold as of mid-April. I think it's on par with Marvelous' expectations, but I have to double check that. And assuming approx. 1000-2000, per week since then (being generous), it should exceed expectations.

It's not like you can expect a Vanillaware game to sell gangbusters. There is a reason why they can't hold a single publisher for more than one game right now.

It's really unfortunate that they would have to resort to this. Marvelous is currently possibly the greatest third party Wii supporter. They actually put effort into all of their games, unlike a lot of Wii third party developers and publishers. It's sad that all of these so-called hardcore Wii gamers aren't picking up their products. Listen up, any Wii gamer who's with his salt better buy Little King's Story when it comes out this July to tell Marvelous that we still want them making Wii games. Otherwise, have fun playing Imagine: Babysitter 7: Petz Hamsterz Edition, or whatever other shovelware Ubis*** puts on the Wii.

Can other game companies do this too? Bugger graphics and all that jazz. I'd love to see some Wii games be ported to PS3/360.
