A cricket bat? Strange enough weapon to add, though Valve aren't revealing too much aside from this new weapon. Also noted is the fact the infected has a helmet.

Valve has lifted the lid on a brand new melee weapon for Left 4 Dead 2, just in time for tomorrow's Ashes kick-off. The zombie-crocking newcomer is a cricket bat, which players will be able to weild viciously and knock the undead for six. Will it be effective? Who knows because Valve is keeping further details under wraps, but the prospect of switch-hitting a zombie in the googlies is certainly something we cannot wait to see.

The game takes place in New Orleans, and in America you're a hell of a lot more likely to find a baseball bat than a cricket bat. Valve must've included it as a reference to Shaun of the Dead.

Oh man, look at the screenshot, too! The zombie he's whacking with the cricket bat is wearing an Australian jersey! Possibly a reference to this?

Those Valve guys are pretty clever with these references.

Frankly, I thought the character Louis was reference enough to Shaun of the Dead. Come on, an office worker wearing a white shirt and red tie ?

By the way, you've got red on you.

No, The zombie is wearing an aussie shirt and the survivor is wearing an England cap. Its in reference to the ashes.

I take offense to this article

And the Poms have no chance btw.

Also, am I the only one who finds it completely useless that you have to drop a gun to pick up a melee weapon? Who the heck is actually gonna do that?

When the thing essentially one hit kills any enemy in the game i'd drop my gun for a cricket bat or any other melee weapon for that matter.

Maybe you get 1 gun and 1 melee weapon.

Well it definately was 'one of the other' at E3.

If you give someone the choice between a sniper rifle or a baseball bat, I'm assuming most would go sniper rifle (although I would go Auto-Shotgun lol)

On the point of carrying 1 gun and 1 melee weapon (which is the obvious choice), which button would you chart it to? The obvious one would be the push button (LT), but then what happens when you want to push a boomer back? He's gonna splatter his guts all over you faster than a fat kid rolling down a hill

This is where the whole "work as a team" thing comes in. Your team needs diversity. If everybody has a sniper rifle and you got vomited on by a Boomer then the incoming horde would probably kill you. If everybody had a cricket bat then you're screwed when a Witch or a Tank shows up. But if one guy has the cricket bat and another guy has the auto-shotgun... You see where I'm going with this.

I think melee weapons would be a lot of fun.

Am I the only one who noticed that the zombie is digitally brushed in...?

Is it just me or do the graphics in this game seem to have gone down in quality from the first one?

Anyway, a cricket bat sounds pretty awesome, though when it said 'melee', did anyone think a bat wouldn't be included?

No, they seem to be more team fortress 2-like. Bright vibrant colors FTW

Its a shot specifically made to show the Bat. Its not an in game shot.

Even at E3 the character models (especially Hunters) were noticably... well... more 'classic' Valve looking, rather than the ones in L4D.
