Never discount the selling power and market strength of the Dragon Quest series in Japan. Final Fantasy what?

Japanese newssite Inside-Games reports, according to information from the Nikkei Industrial Newspaper, that Square Enix's upcoming DS RPG, Dragon Quest IX: Hoshizora no Mamoribito, has totaled over 2 million preorders at Japanese retailers. Those retailers have also been heavily promoting the title ahead of the game's release.

The next greatest gaming sensation releases this Saturday in Japan on July 11th, retailing for 5980 yen. Also set to debut on the 11th is a brand new red-colored DSi from Nintendo. Dragon Quest IX's official site can be found here.
