Modern Warfare 2 Cause Singularity To Be Delayed

Singularity is a brand new IP being developed by Raven and published by Activision. The game was originally set to be released this fall, but because of the high amount of anticipation for Modern Warfare 2, Activision felt the game will bet over shadowed. The new date for the game is March 2010.

Activision has confirmed to Shacknews that Raven's shooter Singularity has been delayed to March 2010 due to strong demand for the publisher's upcoming sequel Modern Warfare 2.

Singularity, a new IP developed by Raven, was originally slated for a fall 2009 release. The highly anticipated Modern Warfare 2 is set to launch on November 10, leading Activision to space out Singularity's release in avoidance of the busy season.

    Not a good sign for Singularity. If a dev goes so far as to delay a game because another big-name game is releasing at the same time, they clearly don't feel like their own game is up to par to compete.

      Even if Singularity is going to be as much as an innovation as Bioshock was, I wouldn't risk releasing it anywhere around MW2 either. Sing may be brilliant, but gamers don't know that- on the other hand, MW is a proven franchise, and they're sure MW2 is going to be excellent.

      Look at it from the gamers point of view- go along with a game which is a sequel to a excellent one and is sure to be good, or buy a game which they're not sure about?

      I don't think that's the only possibility though. Modern Warfare 2 is seriously accumulating a lot of hype, while Singularity is (dun dun) an IP. And I think the entire industry learned from EA's mistakes in 2008 with the whole IP-splurge.

      It makes sense. Go to any random forum and ask people which they've heard more from: Modern Warfare 2 or Singularity.

      Hell, I haven't even heard of Singularity before this article. What does that say about it compared to Modern Warfare 2 ?

    Sigularity is a new IP even if it was the best game in the world it would fail going up against a series on it's 6th release. The only reason some developers don't delay their new IP's is because their name as a developer will get them through like when Valve released Left 4 Dead among many established IP's. In my opinion Singularity is going to be a better game than Modern Warfare 2 but it's a new IP and won't win regardless of quality.
