Despite the large number of Dragon Quest IX preorders in Japan, it looks like Japanese gamers are unhappy with the game now that it has been released. Japanese gamers who bought it on Amazon, that is. The site currently has hundreds of negative reviews for DQIX. Ouch.

An organized effort to slam DQIX? Or a genuinely bad game?

Did you hear? Dragon Quest IX is out in Japan. And if the Amazon Japan reviews are anything to go by, the people have spoken and the people are upset.

These are Amazon reviews, so please, take them just as that: Amazon reviews. At the time of writing, the game has 503 reviews, averaging 2.5 stars. Here is the breakdown:

• 5 stars (67 stars)
• 4 stars (57)
• 3 stars (70)
• 2 stars (86)
• 1 star (223)

I was going to say, "Who takes Amazon site reviews seriously?", but that would be rather rhetorical...

Sometimes I read Amazon reveiws just for enjoyment. My personal favorite is "Garfield is a cat who says funny things. 5 stars."

Going by Kotaku's reader's responses it seems people who imported the game love it.

    Actually,

    1) A lot of people thought Wi-Fi Multiplayer. It was a assumption that was wrong.

    2) It is also a joke from 2ch to give bad reviews on DQIX.
