MTV Multiplayer reports that Arkham Asylum will feature a Prince of Persia-esque mechanic to prevent you from dying from falls. However, players will have to respond to a QTE to save yourself, as opposed to Prince of Persia, where it was automatic. Also, you can die if you take too much damage in combat.

I’m about 3-4 hours into an early build of “Batman: Arkham Asylum,” and while I’m limited due to embargoes on what I can talk about, I wanted to call attention to a rather unique feature which is reminiscent of something that came up in last year’s “Prince of Persia.”

In that game, you couldn’t die. Even if you ran out of health or fell off a cliff, your friendly neighborhood mystical princess flew in and saved you. Batman obviously doesn’t have a handy helper that follows him around, but he DOES rely on gadgets quite a bit. So, say you’re zipping around the depths of Arkham Asylum and you miss a jump, falling into poison gas or spikes or whathaveyou. Before you land and perish the game will actually slow down and prompt you to hit the grapple button (in the case of the 360 version, the right bumper). Do it fast enough and Bats will shoot out his grappling hook, bringing you back to the ledge you were just on.

Wait; So from the sound of it, you CAN die from falling if you dont succeed in the QTE, so....=/

Pretty cool part of the game, if you ask me. As the article points out; When is the last time Bats was so stupid that he'd fall off of a ledge and kill himself? Come on.

That makes sense, tbh. If Batman falls, of course he's going to have some gadgets to prevent him from splattering onto the ground.
Kinda sucks that the game will slow down to ensure you hit the QTE though.

I kinda like that. Makes it MUCH better of a Batman game in my opinion, because yeah of course Batman would use the grappling gun to save himself!

GG, I'm sure the game doesn't slow down TOO much and make it TOO easy, to where there's no challenge or anything...

If this needs to be stated, the gaming industry is in really sad shape.

That was only stated due to the Prince of Persia reference and how in that game you couldn't die, but in this game, you can die.

There are plenty of games out there that give you infinite retrys. Long gone are the days when dieing meant restarting the level from the begining. Even further gone are the days of limited lives where when you die you have to start the whole damn game over. Sooner or later someone some where is going to make a game where you have infinite health. You will just become an unstoppable force of nature.

The leading games console is the Nintendo Wii.

The gaming industry has been in really sad shape for a while.

Well like someone on the forums said, platforming doesn't seem to be a big part of this game (unlike PoP, where it was central) so I don't think this matters too much anyway. It's just there to make transitions between places in Arkham less annoying (and so the inevitable boss fight on the roof (I'm guessing maybe with Bain) is also less frustrating).

Damn, now I won't see Batman get splattered nearly so often
