2 months ago, Take Two announced the delay of Mafia 2 and Red Dead: Redemption to 2010- well, Bioshock 2 has joined the list, as T2 announces that Bioshock 2 will be delayed to fiscal 2010, supposedly to do some additional development.

Now, BioShock 2 could very well be pushed into calendar 2010, missing the holidays completely.

Officially, Take-Two blames the delay on the need to "provide additional development time for the title."

Strauss Zelnick, Chairman of Take-Two called the delay "the right decision for the product," but calls the impact on its revised financial outlook a "disappointment."

Fiscal 2010 so that means after April 2010 as that is when the fiscal 2009 year ends. I can see BioShock 2 now coming out in October 2010 which is something no one wants. I'd have said it'd come out earlier but all the big games come out in the same time frame these days.

    The *bleep* 2K? That sucks.

Although, if they've thought of some epic 'Would you kindly?' level plot twist to put in and they need this time to fully incorporate it into the storyline... then I don't mind. As long as it isn't arbitrary bullshit. I'll try to be patient

I just hope this isn't a delay caused by pure fear of going up against Modern Warfare 2. I mean even if the game sucks the fact that CoD4: Modern Warefare sold over 14 million copies in just over two years and World at War did the same feat in just over a year makes the game some formidable opponent, so much so it seems many developers would rather release off season in a less prime release window than go up against it.

I hope it is as you said Hideo1 i would love it to be because of some awesome storyline or even better graphics and gameplay, but something tells me it's a purely sales oriented move which makes sense, as if the game fails to live up to the hype raking in the money is an obvious good 2nd place reward. I really think Modern Warfare 2 may have quite a bit of say on this delay to be honest.

They got a new development company on board, and now this?

Expectations just went down the drain.

They've brought in another viewpoint on how to make it better and extended the time so they could improve but this puts expectations down the drain?

Yeah, I don't see how giving a team more time to work on a game could kill your expectations? Unless the company making it is dyslexic or something, the game isn't going to get worse as they work more and more on it.

The saying too many chefs spioil the broth comes to mind... You can have to many people working on a game. Especially when they all come from individual teams. It is less the case if all 200 are from on team as you are all working towards one goal but each different team has a lead designer, lead developer, lead artist etc.. And it is essentially their job to steer the game in the direction they think works best. Having 4 developers on one game could make this the best game ever made refined and meticulously scrubbed over by so many developers, but it could also be one horrible mess of ideas from each team not implemented right. I can see why expectations are down the drain as not one of these developers is the original BioShock developer and now having 4 in control can be seen as a bad move.

But it's not having four in control of the game. It's having two companies involved in the online aspect (one to help them make the online aspect good, which is a great thing since if they did it themselves it wouldn't have been that great; offline is where they shine, and another from 2K to make sure it's kept quintessential Bioshock) and one company working and controlling the offline game with another brought in for a second opinion and suggestions.

So it's not 4 devs screwing with one game, it's 2 working on the online and 1 in the online with another just helping them out. Neither group affects the other aspect they aren't working on, so I don't see the problem.

This actually makes me very happy. I hadn't planned on buying this on release because of all the other games coming out. Now maybe I'll buy it on release if it's mid 2010.

Same here. Plus, I'll get time to play the first game.

I was just about to post something like this. There would have been a week or so before I would shelve it in favor of Modern Warfare 2, with Left 4 Dead 2 coming the week after that. I'm glad I'll be able to take my time with it when it's out in 2010.

You know you could have just not got it on release and waited until you had time for it; plus it would have been cheaper.
