We pretty much seen this coming after the price drop of the Blue-Ray. Playstation 3 owners are probably sulking to themselves, wishing they waited a few extra months before buying, but oh well. We do not have an estimate onto what the price would be dropped to, but I have a feeling, since the Blue-Ray was dropped $100 dollars, PS3 will follow the path slightly, maybe drop it around $50 or so, making it around $550 dollars. That's still high, but the Blue-Ray is $499 so we must live with it.

"It has been rumored for a long time that the PS3 would be getting a price drop, now word comes out which makes this rumor more fact.

Just a few days ago Sony announced that they would be lowering the price of their Blu-ray player by $100 to bring the price down to a much more mass market and reasonable $499 price tag, making it cheaper than the PlayStation 3.

Sony President Ryoji Chubachi spoke to the daily Yomiuri Shimbun today stating that due to the big competition coming from Nintendo’s Wii console which has been outselling the PS3 at a ratio of about five to one.

Sony stated that they will "not rule out the possibility of lowering the price" of the PS3.

The home video game market right now is as competitive as ever and since the production of the Blu-ray drives finally beginning to go down the time may be right for Sony to make a huge strategic move and cut the price of the PS3, making it much more appealing to mass market consumers who may up until now not be able to afford the next-gen powerhouse of a console."

Doesn't matter at this point. Next year there's sure to be a price drop, maybe by $50. Highly unlikely to happen this year.

Any kind of price drop will equal sales, as the only grumblings I hear about the system thus far is the price.... oh, and the lack of titles.

Ok, SERIOUSLY PEOPLE, if you're gonna submit an article, check the damn spelling.

    It's Blu-ray.

    Blu has no E
    ray is lowercase

What? Because their Blu-ray drive is cheaper, that automatically means the PS3 will be cheaper.

At least that's what the description suggests.

And I for one don't regret one second that I bought the PS3 earlier. You don't know.

I don't regret it at all.

Playing Motorstorm, Formula 1, Resistance, Calling all Cars, and flOw was well worth the money, as was watching Talladega Nights, Casino Royale, and Pirates 1 and 2 on Blu-ray.

Hmm maybe Sony will drop the price of the PS3 ever so slightly for Christmas? Though I doubt that they will make any significant changes until next year.

They probably wouldn't lower the price during the Christmas season, because they simply know the PS3 will be in high demand regardless of the cost. Even Microsoft said they wouldn't lower the cost of the Xbox 360 by Christmas, due to that theory.

    Although, one can always hope.

Well a price drop would be good for me. Hopefully in a year's time it will drop $50 to $100.

Well, lowering the price will be like playing with fire for them. Considering the shitload of money they've lost with the PS3 alone, there's no guarantee whatsoever that lowering the price will make it successful.

Lowering the price $50 is like those stupid occasional "WAS 8.95 NOW 8.65" I mean it's not enough. $100 would be better, because $550 is still way high for a system. The PS2 was like this also.

A price drop is good and believable because Blu-ray is getting a more popular and more selling device and now its an older technology now people have gotten used to it (like me)

Um actually, it will help, for one NGS is coming out so its a good that will help ps3 sales if your a sony fan. Second, price cuts always help. I mean, you need a ps3 to be able to play ps2 or ps1 games on the psp. There are all sorts of things that lowering the price will help. However im pretty sure it will be 100. Im hopeing it will be lowered by the end of the summer, the big holiday sales.

Um lol thats the most funniest and no true thing i ever read. First it wouldnt be in high demand unless ppl are rich. And of course there are good games available. And since we know some thats coming out by or at christmas lowering the price then would be like selling kids candy. You know there will be getting it.
Its called marketing, what they should do is lower it by 100 and then as a "special sale", on christmas time have it for $450 or perhaps $399. And then it will sell like hotcakes. Though i know they wont do it but its sounds possible.

I don't think it's likely they'll drop it sometime soon, maybe sometime next year they will. It would help their sales if they did though.

They'll definitely drop the price a bit. They're hurting bad, and feeling plenty emo at the moment. They desperately need sales. Sony's game division doesn't exactly have full support on their projects anymore.

Was there not just an article a couple of days ago that had Sony representatives confirming that there WOULD BE NO PRICE DROP, as was continuously rumored? Do you people forget so easily?
