Microsoft recently stated a response to President Obama's comment about parent "needing to put away their Xbox's". However, the 360 made a false claim about being the only system to offer parents a way to limit their children.

President Obama made a comment a few days ago using the Xbox as the whipping boy for problems with video games today. This comment has Microsoft riled-up resulting in a public response to President Obama’s comment. Interestingly enough, Microsoft claims that the Xbox 360 is the only console to have parental controls.

Hahaha Sony has some really good parental controls and to anyone that even glances at the manual has a guide of which level of parental control blocks out which game rating. It is fool proof quite literally.

Silly Microsoft - claiming to be the only console to have parental controls. Absolutely silly.

      I'm a man, goddammit. I don't read no manual.

Tch, this is one of the results of a company getting too big-headed and being too competitive.

They were stupid for thinking that anyway. I'm not biased towards any of the game console manufacturers, but did Microsoft honestly think Sony wouldn't have thought to add a Parental Control option? o__O

Are you serious? Wow this actually suprises me. I would have thought that companies actually do good to know their competition!

Then again, it could just be whomever said this, is the one whose ignorant, while the company in general does know (and is probably slapping themselves over this person's words).

They probably know very well that the PS3 has parental controls. They're just saying this for the "Omg! Only 360 haz te'rental controls! I buy it for mah kids!" reaction from the parents.

Slip up? Doubtful. In fact, this reminds of that one time when Bill himself said Sony aren't really into much other than video games ( ignoring the fact they sell tv's, pc's and other shit ).

maybe Obama should stop saying such stupid anti video game things. he has no say over whether parents can let their kids play games or not. i think hes sleeping with Jack Thompson.

I think there's nothing wrong with people saying or wanting parents to start thinking about their kids' well-being (and the thing called the LAW), instead of thinking about their own peace by giving their kids whatever they want.

I'd rather have a President actively trying to promote not letting your kids turn into lifeless nerds who do nothing but game and eat cheetoes then one who says 'Do whatever you want'.

He's not being anti-video game, he's anti-shit parent who buys their kids off instead of, you know, actually giving love, attention and other such things

if hes not anti video games then why is he singling out video games? more specifically Xbox over PS3? why doesnt he talk about parents shouldnt let their kids watch violent movies or listen to heavy metal or something? it sounds like he's taking over for Jack Thompson to me.

          I somehow don't think he's specifically anti-Xbox.

I know what he said, but he's probably a bit ignorant to the gaming world. I find that people like that seem to think that Xbox, Wii, PS3 Xbox360, etc. are all the same thing.

So I don't think he's only against Xbox, but he just seems to be against games in general.

i heard Major Nelson say a few months ago that they sent a free 360 to "the White House" intended for Obama but i doubt he was even informed of it. the interns probably play it by themselves LOL!

anyway someone needs to get the Obama family a Wii at the very least, sheesh.

How many kids are pathetically addicted to violent movies and thrash metal because their parents don't care about them? If there are any I can guarentee the number is nothing by comparison to that of video-games. You see he doesn't care about people playing video-games but recognises that it is a form of a escapism that can draw people in too much if not done with a level of sensibility as millions of virgins have proven with World of Warcraft. To go on about violent movies and thrash metal would just be bias and opinionated whereas everything he has said about video-games, to a degree, has been truthful.

And he used Xbox as an example because it's the most widely recognised gaming console (Wii is too family friendly (and as such not recognised for actual gaming) to count). Microsoft put millions into advertisements, pulled in recognition by releasing the 360 early and paid for Chris on Gilmore Girls to comment on a 360 in Logan's apartment; they got the recognition and fame they sought after but being the most well-known means you're going to represent what you're a part of in the public eyes as well, good and bad.

In the same way Naomi Cambell and Kate Moss represents the model industry, the actors and actresses of Hollywood represent the movie industry and James Blunt
          represents the shit music industry.

Edit: That was a lot longer then I imagined xD

Guys, does the PS3 actually have a timer feature? If the parental controls of the PS3 is anything like that of the PSP, then it won't have that.
Microsoft is talking about the timer, not the overall parental controls.

      Drogo Baggins Jul 20, 09
      Yep, you're right, StarJet.

Microsoft says that the, "Xbox 360 is the only console gaming system that has a timer feature allowing parents to set time limits for their kids, as well as parent controls to enable parents to set limits on what their kids are playing and watching."

In other words, they're saying it's the only console to have both types of features. Way to over-exaggerate on what someone says, Article Writer. EDIT: Actually, I should replace "Article Writer", with "People Turning This Into A Debate"...Hideos comment below got me thinking about what I said above.

I think I totally agree with you.

I'm not a parent, and thank God for that considering I'm only 17, but I think that whenever I do have kids, I would be more worried about restricting the amount of time my kids play, rather than the content of the games.

I could, and would, monitor the content myself just by simply coming to trusted sources of information, otherwise known as Neoseeker or GameGrep.

Yeah that's right , children can't vote... so they don't need to play video games.

Do you ever have the feeling some people just read the title and fill in all the other, non-important stuff (like, you know, logic and information) with whatever the heck they want?

"Xbox 360 is the only console gaming system that has a timer feature allowing parents to set time limits for their kids, as well as parent controls to enable parents to set limits on what their kids are playing and watching.."

Obviously, they're stating that the X360 is the only console on the market now that has a timer feature for parents (which is true), as well as (meaning "in addition to") other parental controls.

Must be a slow news week.

If you're talking about poo I didn't see anything wrong with his first comment so whoever reported that seems a little out of order (unless they did it because of the needless bumping, as it were).

Curious about the second one though as I didn't get to read it XD

Both of my comments were unnecessary, I was just trolling a Kave En article, using his favorite word "fail." The second comment was as well a "fail" filled one as well. Province, I'm not very clever so this "great read" probably would've been "failed", .
