According to GamePolitics, Florida attorney Jack Thompson has apparently convinced the state's Attorney General Bill McCollum to take a look at the Wii version of Rockstar's Manhunt 2. While the violent nature of Manhunt 2 is enough to get Thompson rallying against it, he has been speaking out against the Wii release in particular thanks to its motion-sensing controls, calling it a "training device" for ill behavior. It's precisely these controls which McCollum has subsequently expressed concern over in a yet-to-be-aired Fox News interview. A comment from McCollum's Press Secretary certainly suggests potential investigation or action:

Attorney General Bill McCollum is concerned about any games which may instill violence in children, particularly games that encourage children to engage in violent behavior, even in simulation. He believes it is important to help protect children from influences which may introduce violence into their lives and stresses the importance of parental involvement in the efforts to keep these influences out of our homes and away from our families.

    Oh *bleep* off.

Honestly, don't these people have anything better to do? Like some madman is gonna practice killing people on a Wii game. Bloody hell.

Ridiculous. Does this guy ever give up? This is why we can't have nice things.

Wow. Jack Thompson is such an idiot. Manhunt 2 is not gonna be a training device for children to learn how to kill people. It's just a game. Children who can't understand that it's just a game and that they should never try what they see in videogames in real life shouldn't be playing videogames, period.

Haha. This guy clearly has nothing better to do. Seriously though, what is the point? The Wii is a 'training device for ill behaviour'. I have faith in rockstar, but I truely doubt that slashing somebody's head in Manhunt 2 will be ANYTHING like it is in real life...

    Bless him.

I wonder if Jack ever played with water guns, they seem to be even more violent than a video game, yet he isn't suing super soaker.

Well this guy is really just stressing parental involvement. That doesn't really suggest action, unless I'm missing something.

Maybe he's just going to say that parents must make sure they don't buy this game for their kids? Which is perfectly reasonable.

Thats what I gathered from the story as well and I'm in full support. I'd much rather see a stricter game rating system than a removal of overly graphic games.

    Oh please.

It's not Jack Thompson's responsibility to keep these games away from kids. There's a purpose for the ESRB ratings, to notify parents about the content within the game. I'm sure there will be a big M for Mature rating on the box.

Wow, the world is turning over on it's backside. An idiot says that video games will lead to new murderers in the near future. Nice way to represent the U.S., Jack Thompson, saying that it a "training device".

typical Jack. -_- does this guy EVER give up? violent games =/= murderers. just because you can aim a gun with a controller doesn't make you Seung-Hui Cho. knowing how to press up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, start doesn't mean that you are automatically a killer.
