Casey Hudson explained today how the saved data from Mass Effect 1 will work in Mass Effect 2, in a article from PC World. Apparently what you did in Mass Effect 1 will greatly effect what happens and what you do in the new Mass Effect.

"When you're playing the first game, everything that you do is setting a variable so that as the story progresses we know that you did a certain thing on a certain planet, and then internal to the game, we can reference those things," Hudson explained. "Your Mass Effect save game contains all of that information. When you import it into Mass Effect 2, now we can continue mining all that information."

The information pertains not just to what your ending was, but to "literally hundreds of things," Hudson said. "Anytime we have a plot or a character or situation in Mass Effect 2, we think about what you did, potentially, in the first game that might affect said plot or character or situation in the second. We can look at each variable and dynamically change what happens in the moment."

You never know, that might pay off.

Mass effect 1 was good because it balanced good and evil.

Most games just make one side heavily advantaged and the other is made weak.

Yeah, different paths, decisions, etc., affected the game. Love ME1.

Perhaps you're right...if anything I can always play through it again after ME2 to see how things will change.

It could be something like you gain a reputation of being a bad ass. So in the second one people are scared of you and so give up information more easily or are persuaded more easily.

Not necessarily. I'm expecting the Queen to pay me back the huge *bleep*ing favor of actually letting her live.

I want to think so too, but there has got to be something that, despite good intent, turns out to be a negative. Maybe not the Rachni, but I hope ME2 doesn't go cliche and have every good guy move pay off in the long run and every bad guy move be bad in the long run. That helps defeat the purpose of making the choices difficult.

I killed it. I'm not letting it live. It could have been a risk. I didn't trust it.

I wouldn't worry too much about your last save. I have a feeling it will work kind of like starting a new game did in ME. You pick the previous character and go from there.
