Christophe Balestra of Naughty Dogs reveals that Uncharted 2 will not require an install.

Those graphics without an install? I'm impressed. Hope other developers start doing the same.

Uncharted 1 didn't have it and it still didn't have any load times. Glad this one doesn't have install, im guessing the same with the loading.

Uncharted hides it's loading times behind real time cutscenes. It means that while there are lots and really long load times we never see a single one as they are hidden behind interesting story driving scenes.

Can you skip them though? I remember Resistance 2 did the same thing, though if you skipped them a short loading screen still did appear.

Uncharted 1 does have a file download. It's really small, but it's still in there in your Game Data.

Many games have that i personally think the file is a cache set up by the game. The first console game to do that was Oblivion on the Xbox 360 for those with the HDD. It isn't an install but the cache is created within seconds of inserting the disc for the first time. In theory it's to reduce loadtimes, as the more you play the game and repeat segments this loads repeated textures and soundbytes to the cache. Though many games the cache is too small, gets full and often slows the game down. Oblivion found that to it's detriment as it is a very fast game for the first week then slow as hell for the rest.

Yeah, I've become aware of that myself. I used to get lightning fast loads in Oblivion when I first played it, and the framerates were smooth. Now loading takes ages and it has to load a new area far more frequently than it used to. Sometimes it grinds to a complete halt, and at some points I've restarted it because it just froze...

So this is just like every other non-PlayStation 3 console game in existence?
