If we can't control it, it can't be in China. That seems to be the mantra of the Chinese government these days. If they have no means to strictly regulate part of the media, it can't be allowed. While that may not necessarily be the case, it's bans like this that give off the impression mentioned previously. This ban affects games such as Grand Theft Auto and the Godfather.

For those who don't bother clicking the source: Blood and gore isn't being banned, but rather the offending themes that are often found in Grand Theft Auto style games.

Whether it is religion, environmentalism or nonprofit charities, the Chinese government has always been wary of any organized activity it cannot directly control.

Now there is an addition to the list: simulated organized crime.

Seriously, people, consider the culture. There are some cultures where some types of games are just not allowed, and we need to realize it's perfectly fine and not an attack against our precious games.

Just like a game where you go off killing japanese people for no reason whatsoever, wouldn't be good in a japanese culture. . .

      Good point and I agree.

It's easy to attack every ban on every game, but sometimes it's important to recognize why the ban occurs.

I would agree, except this is in China. I'm not saying this as in I have anything against China but if we're completely honest all the Chinese government needs to do now is ban humus, get the Danes involved and they'd have pretty much pissed off everyone with this bullshit.

If this was a case of them not liking the message these types of games portrayed and it not fitting with their culture then it would be fine but in this case it's just another example of the government looking at Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and thinking 'we want in on that shit'. A small example in context but with a deep-seeded jackassery nonetheless. If you disagree, go ask Tibet.
