Dark Void delayed, avoiding competition

Publisher Capcom has noted its latest property Dark Void will be delayed until Q1 2010 in order to "to avoid competition with releases of major titles of other companies."

The game was set to come out at the end of September, but will now not see the light of day until between January 1 and March 31, 2010. A rough hit, to be sure, but on the bright side the game should be even more polished and come with more content upon launch.

Capcom anticipates the game will sell two million copies by April.

Precisely what competition could Capcom be so afraid of? GameStop (of course, never an accurate reflection of actual release dates) listed Dark Void as touching down on September 22 ... the same September 22 in which Halo 3 ODST finally stops preparing, and just drops. When asked about the delay, Kramer said, "The move will be great for the game and for gamers: less competition in the market (curse you, Halo!), more time for polish."

So, just to make sure we've got this right: Capcom avoided releasing Dark Void in the relatively open September '09 period to avoid a "crowded" gaming season, opting instead for 2010 ... the same 2010 that now houses release dates for the similarly delayed Splinter Cell: Conviction, Bioshock 2, Singularity, Bayonetta, Red Steel 2, and probably Mafia II and Red Dead Redemption. Oh, as well as the already planned God of War 3, Heavy Rain, MAG, Darksiders, Aliens vs. Predator, and Alan Wake.

    What the...why?! Splinter Cell, Mass Effect 2, and other games are already being pused into 2010. What a waste. This is a good opportunity, especially if the game was going to hit stores on September, before the November wave.

      I was thinking that as well, wondering why they would avoid competition in September by shifting the date to early 2010 when everything but Halo is getting released.

      Is Halo: ODST really so scary to other publishers?

    'I know! Now, we've only got to compete with Splinter Cell. And Mass Effect 2. And Bioshock 2. And Mafia II. And Alan Wake. And Alien vs. Predator.'

    Considering Halo is huge sales juggernaut, it's half of the reason.

    The other half is Modern Warfare 2.

    Uncharted 2 is in a safe position. While it might not be as a big a sales juggernaut as the other two games, most gamers will buy it along with either MW2/Halo. (like I will)

    ND are in a good position. Uncharted has a strong following and will sell well no matter when they release it.

    As for me, I'm glad games are getting delayed. Since I'm buying the good games on both systems, and my wallet can only handle so much rape ffs

    That soundtrack is why i'm buying the game. The 'everything is blue' effect is just a side bonus.

    Hang on, that's the...7th game that's been delayed?

    Red Dead: Redemption, Mafia II, M.A.G., Red Steel 2, Splinter Cell: Conviction, Bioshock 2, and now Dark Void.

    It's getting ridiculous.

    EDIT: Whoops, forgot Singularity. 8th game.
