You may not be surprised to discover that Square Enix were inspired by Western games when making Final Fantasy XIII, but you might be surprised to know which types of games caught their eye.
Square Enix's Yoshinori Kitase has revealed that the company looked at Call of Duty and other FPSs for inspiration.

“We don’t look much at Western RPGs,” said Kitase. “But, for instance, we really look at Call Of Duty and other Western FPSs in terms of how to immerse the player in the moment of the action and how to portray the right movements for the supporting characters in battles – those sorts of games do this really well, and it’s something we considered with FFXIII.”

Man, Resistance 2 was ruined by cod influence. I would hate to see final fantasy too.

Well I really don't see how this could work. Aside from taking inspiration for some of the set pieces (Carrying a wounded ally along maybe)
