Sony is seemingly not prepared to give up the ghost on its handheld PlayStation Portable platform, despite it being trounced at every turn by the clamshell appeal of a certain Nintendo DS. Further to that, details are beginning to emerge concerning the new, slim line PSP 2.

Essentially, the revised PSP will feature the same fundamental innards as its predecessor; indeed, it seems to be the handheld’s exterior that’s going to see the more significant tweaks, starting off with a new LED screen that will apparently sport a sharper image, take up less space, and use up far less of the battery.

Yeah I read about that. I may get this PSP depending on it's looks and such.

    So, it's not really a PSP2. It's more like a PSP Lite.

I have to agree with you. I don't think you will be able to do much with it like what you can do with the normal PSP.
The ability to run homebrew in the normal one is awesome, but I think Sony will increase the security on this one.

A screen that takes up less space, as in it's smaller? They better not!

As in it requires less "padding" around the screen perhaps?

Yeah abit like cell phones, i mean my phone is 10.9mm thick, the screen is almost paper thin yet it is as bright and as sharp as my tv, they won't make the screen smaller it will just be thinner so the case can get alot thinner.

Security and battery improvements are pretty much required for the next PSP. Like twilightprince said though, this might as well be a PSP Lite if they are mainly concentrating on the appearence.

Still, if they will not let us use Homebrew, Sony may not sell many of those.
And yeah, it needs a better battery.

If I can hack it just as easily as the regular PSP, I'll go for it.

    HOLD IT!

I'm pretty sure this is just a redesign, not a new PSP.

I don't think they should make it smaller, like volacide said, that'd mean a smaller screen obviously. Longer battery life, etc. To me, it sounds like it's really just a remake and improvement from the original

With this in mind its still going to be the same as the original, this psp will fix the current problems with the psp.
One being the battery and probably others. Since its a redesign i think you will still be able to use the features the original had. Andyds how do you know it wont allow us to use homebrew. The ps2 redesign was the same if not better than the original, the difference was size.

Sony is against Homebrew, that's the only reason of why they would increase the security and disable the ability to run unsigned code.

I dont think making it smaller is a good idea and as Volacide said I also think it's not a new psp but a new design

If it has another *bleep*ing joystick to make games actually playable, I'll give it a shot

I don't have a PSP, but I have played on my friend's one.
I'm not saying that the PSP is bad, but it does need improvements. It is a bit bulky, and I'm happy they're making it slightly smaller. But there's one thing I really don't like about the PSP - its joystick. It's just weird, and to be honest, I'm really crap at it.

The problem with the original PSP is that you really couldn't get too many good games for it without homebrewing. If this is just a remake of the original, it's going to encounter the same problems. If they choose to make it harder to homebrew on it as well, I doubt too many people will actually bother to buy it.

Well, I was planning on getting a PSP soon, but I don't wanna end up in another Gameboy Advance situation and have a better one come out soon after I buy this one...

Unless my cousin buys one and sells it to me for $75 I probably won't be getting one. I think I'll just stick with my PSPhat.
