Peter Jackson, a world-known director/producer of films such as the re-made King Kong movie, may be heading to the animated direction and work on the an animated series of Halo. More money-making plans targeting Halo fans, yeah, but an animated series doesn't sound too bad, especially with a big name like Jackson involved.

UPDATE: Did Shane Kim's loose lips reveal too much, too soon? Microsoft doesn't think so. Kim and Microsoft have told 1UP this morning "he was misquoted (or possibly misspoke) during the GameSpy interview, but either way, it was an error."
Microsoft reiterated the fact that Jackson's project is a Halo interactive series, but wouldn't say anything more than that.

ORIGINAL STORY: We first heard about Peter Jackson collaborating with Microsoft and Bungie on a Halo-related project in 2006, but everyone involved has been shh ever since. An interview with Microsoft Game Studios big wig Shane Kim (as originally pointed out by NeoGAF) totally spills the beans: they're making an interactive, animated series.

"Bungie is working directly with Peter Jackson on the Halo interactive series, and Bungie will definitely be involved, and continue to be involved on Halo."
Tell us more, Shane.

"Bungie has their plans well mapped out. You have to, when you have a studio like that, and you need to know what you're moving your people on to. So they have the collaboration with Peter Jackson on the animated series."
Given Jackson's experience, this makes sense. Whereas Electronic Arts recruited director Steven Spielberg to create games, Microsoft and Bungie seem to be drawing on Jackson's foremost talent: movies. The movie isn't dead, either, as Jackson most recently told New Zealand website Stuff that Halo 3's media frenzy should renew interest.

I would simply prefer the movie that's coming out. An animated series doesn't quite fit the theme in my opinion.

As long as it turns out better than Star Wars The Clone Wars then I'll be happy.

Hmm. I'm not sure if Peter Jackson and Halo make a perfect combination, but it should be good anyway. He isn't famous for nothing.

I think his King Kong series were good, so maybe with his talents comnbined with Halos popularity could make a perfect animated series.
