In a world where conservation and ecologically-minded consideration is supposedly at the forefront of modern thinking, tech peripheral maker AVing has opted to give us PC equipment lovingly crafted from wood. Okay, no toxic chemicals in the production process... but probably quite a few trees, we're thinking!

Save the rainforests! Or, alternatively, why not chop 'em down and make swish-looking PC peripherals for the sake of little more than tasteless novelty value? At the recent Computex 2007 event in Taipei, Marubeni Infotec chose to go with the latter option when it unveiled a new range of PC peripherals fashioned entirely from wood.

Even your PC peripherals are under the threat of termites now.

The wooden flash drives look incredible. I would have to wonder what kind of finish they have on them though. I've spilled things on my keyboard before but it comes right off the plastic but with wood I wouldn't want to see them getting discolored.

Most of my wood has several finishes on it, and if it was meant for computer work I'd expect a good deal more protection is placed on these than normal.

Then again, if you're making electronics out of wood...

Particularly for the keyboard! But maybe they cheesed out like Ikea and actually used particle board instead of real wood. Did they miter the corners like Norm Abram, the king of power tools?

Weird. Wouldn't things like these be more susceptible to fire, though?

Yeah, that flash drive is looking good. I already have a 1GB plastic flash drive, though.

Well that's good. Wish it would not get termites or get rotten.

Very nice! But I would be quite worried about the wood going discoloured. I'd love to see a monitor.

I wouldn't want anything wooden for my computer. The junk would get scratched and banged up a little too easily. Someday it might start to rot. I would have to put coasters under the glasses I set on my printer.

Next will be wooden computer cases so electrical fires can spread faster to your table or carpet.

    Trees grow back, y'know :S
But anyway, this is an amusing yet stupid idea. "Tasteless Novelty Value" is spot on :S
