The teaser site Square Enix put up over 5 days ago has been revealed. Those who were hoping for a Final Fantasy VII-related announcement might be sorely disappointed as it's not completely related to Final Fantasy. The game is actually Lord of Vermillion II, the crossover game between Square Enix IPs. However, like the first game, it will be an arcade-only title for Japan at this point.

If you were expecting last week's Square Enix countdown to result in a new Final Fantasy game, you might be a bit disappointed with this news at first. But keep reading.

As many had expected, the identity of the mystery title turned out to be Lord of Vermilion II, a new entry in a series of card-based arcade games. The new version, which comes complete with a new story and updated gameplay systems, will hit Japanese arcades this Fall.

Here's why you might still be excited if you're a Final Fantasy fanatic. The first Lord of Vermilion saw crossovers with Valkyrie Profile and other Square Enix franchises. Square Enix is doing the same with LoV II. Final Fantasy IV's Kain, Rydia and Edge characters will appear as magic. Romancing SaGa 2 is also getting a tie-up, with magic based off the game's seven heroes.

There's even a tie-up with a non-Square Enix franchise. LoV 2 players can look forward to creatures from Magic The Gathering!

So it may not have turned out to be a new FF game or even a console or portable game. But Lord of Vermilion II does look like it has the potential to be a big arcade release for Square Enix. If you happen to be in Japan later this year, head to an arcade to give it a try.
