Recently Bioshock 2 received an impressive advertising event. Letters went out to gaming outlets with coordinates that lead to 9 different beaches around the world. Alongside that there was a time and date of when you should have arrived. Hundreds gathered to these beaches to find hundreds of wine bottles have washed up on shore. The wine bottles have the sweet rapture design on them and some have even been placed on ebay.

Rapture-ready wine bottles washed up on beaches this morning for BioShock 2's heavily anticipated viral marketing event. Kotaku readers from all over the world sent in pics of what they found.

Paul S. in England writes that "40ish bottles" washed ashore on Brighton Beach sometime before 5:37 a.m. Netherlands reader Soulofaqua described the discovery at The Hague as "sort of disappointing" The posters found in the bottles didn't give up much about the new game.

This is by far the coolest marketing event ever. This is how it should be done, not with a dumbass fake-Christian-protest event.

Well from the looks of it, they just went on the beach and stuck the bottles in the sand. But from a legal stand point, it's probably public beaches. If that's the case, all they'd have to do is call up the city officials and ask if they could do it. At most, they'd have to get a permit and make sure there wasn't any bottles left on the beach.

This is so awesome. I want one. Nao.

I went on eBay and the cheapest one is like $30 right now, and it's sure to go up. The highest is at $150.

Being a Bioshock fanboy, I'd love to get my hands on one of these. But seriously, $150 for a wine bottle and a couple posters? Definitely not worth it.

They're actually glass bottles. I know you're being sarcastic, but, I'll treat you as if you're not that bright and you really think they are plastic....

No, dude. They're plastic wine bottles. Look it up on eBay - they're all plastic. After eBay-searching "Bioshock 2 Wine Bottle", look at the first two results. (GameGrep doesn't let you post eBay links.)

          quote
Players were given clues and gps coordinates leading them to 10 different beaches around the world where these plastic wine bottles could be found.
          quote
The bottle is made of plastic and is dated 1958.
Where did you hear it was made out of glass? Maybe some were plastic and some were glass...?

I went to this here in Vancouver's Kits beach. I feel jipped. The event was meant to start at 5:55am, got to the exact spot at 6 and all the bottles were already taken. Most of the people were already gone and the PR person was leaving. For one, the N and W co-ords they gave didn't even lead to anything. Who knew you had to get there earlier than 5:55 I didn't feel too bad in the end because a couple had driven all the way up from Seattle and they didn't get any bottles.

Sorry, but I have 0 sympathy for you. The event started at 5:55 you say? And you got there at 6? Well you're late plain and simple. With an event such as this I think anybody who doesn't get there early is asking to miss out.
