DiRT 2 is still heading to consoles as planned, but the PC version was delayed until December. All for good reason though, so Codemasters can take full advantage of DirectX 11. With this they will be able to create the best looking racer ever, even better then GT5.

Speaking to VideoGamer.com at a recent event in London, game design manager Ralph Fulton said DX11 made the delay worthwhile.

“Without going into a graphical feature list, which I'm probably not best equipped to do at the moment, I can say that you will really see the superiority of DX11 in terms of the graphical fidelity it offers.

Don't believe everything you read. You can't make the "best looking racer ever" with a few months delay, new APIs or not. *bleep* Codemasters.

I highly doubt this. Last I saw of DiRT 2, it looked no better than the original. GT5 has been in development for years to achieve its level of practically photo-realistic visuals, so I doubt Codemasters could top that by working with a brand new engine for a few months.

I believe the main thing in their statement is DirectX 11. Like DirectX 10 before it, for games that took advantage were head and shoulders above anything we had ever seen. DirectX 11 delivers better texture streaming, higher fidelity effects and better visuals all round. The game may look better than everything but the fact is they had to delay the game on PC to achieve it. Like Batman: Arkham Asylum the PC version has better visuals through PhysX though they have to wait over a month after the consoles to play the game.

I think GT5 and Forza 3 will be better looking.
