Sony's game "Resistance: Fall of Man" had included a cathedral with bared resemblance to the Church of England. In the game, the church was being overrun and attacked by aliens.

Sony responds through BBC news.

A lot of talk has been going on about the Church of England's protests over Sony including the Manchester Cathedral in their hit game Resistance: Fall of Man. The church has asked that the game be pulled off the shelves and that Sony issue a formal apology regarding it.

*Sigh* More "VIDEO GAMES CAUSE VIOLENCE" idiocy, and now it's being done by the church.

In the game, you're shooting ALIENS IN ORDER TO SAVE ENGLAND. Never in the game do you fight humans at ALL.

Lol as if sony are going to take it off the shelves. The church just want more money (suprise, suprise). I don't see how this is offensive, unless one day a bunch of Aliens overrun England and claim the church, then they could sue.

I can understand where the bishop is coming from, but he obviously doesn't have a clue. Clearly just wants something to moan about. The church giftshop hasn't been pulling its weight and he needs something to poke.

The fact the game has been out in the UK for 2 months and Manchester's gun crime statistics were back dated some 15 months, negates this games role in any incitement of violence.

Typical ignorant response from those who cannot do their research.

    Makes you question their authority.

I can't believe the church is making such a big deal out of this. It's gonna make more violence happen, it's only a videogame. Hopefully now that Sony apologized the church will just let this whole issue go.

You know i wouldnt be surprise if Jack thompson was the one who gave them a reason to argue, After all you know what he's been up too these last month and a half. And quite honestly sony isnt going to take this game off the shelfs, it hasnt done anything wrong. But it seems another game being destroyed by JT type ppl :sigh:

All of this will just make the game more popular. Free advertising for Sony. It promotes the game even if it is in a negative way it can draw some people's attention and that's a good thing for the business.

At this point, isn't it more surprising when a church ISN'T pissed off about something?

The church is taking it way too seriously. It's only a video game. Besides, the game wasn't actually refering it to the "Church of England" so I don't see why they should complain.

Another failure attempt on video games.

Time and time again, some failure organization/person tries to stop or destroy a game.

The church now joins the media, Jack Thompson, and others in the group of idiotic fail.
