Jack Thompson's at it again, though at least this one has some sort of feasible reason towards it. He's labeled Manhunt 2 for the Wii a 'murder training device' and while his claim makes a bit of sense, what are game ratings for anyway? Parents don't buy it for their children or let them watch, and there's no problem.

Is Manhunt 2 worse on the Wii?

GamePolitics has confirmed via multiple sources that Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum (R) has expressed concern over the impending release of Rockstar’s controversial game on Nintendo’s next-gen console.

For McCollum, the issue seems to be the use of the Wii’s motion-sensitive controller. It is widely anticipated that players will be required to simulate slashing, stabbing or clubbing motions in order to play Manhunt 2 on Nintendo’s popular system.

McCollum apparently said as much in an on-camera interview Monday with Fox News reporter Orlando Salinas. The interview hasn’t aired so far. It was originally slated to run this evening, but late yesterday Salinas told GamePolitics he thought it might run closer to Manhunt 2’s July 9th release date.

Among those interviewed by Salinas for the report was anti-game attorney Jack Thompson, who has been beating the drum about Manhunt 2 - and especially the Wii version - for several weeks. A Thompson letter sent to both McCollum and Florida Governor Charlie Crist (R) on May 12th read in part:

I can't wait for Thompson to throw in the towel. He takes games more seriously than anyone I can think of. Maybe he should look up the word "game."

I bet Rockstar is loving all this publicity. People will be buying this game just because they don't like Thompson.

Anyway, I was afraid of this even before Wii's release. It is true that motion controls provide a more immersing experience, especially in games like this one. The part that irritates me is that there are plenty of other or much easier and more effective ways of training to go on a murder spree. It is idiotic to think just because some deranged people play games, that games create mass murders.

It's just a game. It's not a murder training device.

Yeah, I'm sure after swinging around a small piece of plastic for a while, anybody will know how to use a knife or chainsaw. ¬__¬

Wait, isn't JT sort of breaking a deal he had with Rockstar about not bitching about their products any more, or am I mistaken?

I'm pretty sure he said this earlier, in the letter he sent to a restaurant or whatever.

Hypothetically, even if M2 was a murder simulator, so what? NOTHING should be illegalized if it's just a simulator.

Jack Thompson Calls Manhunt 2 on Wii a 'Murder Training Device'
Jesus Christ, everything is a "murder training device" to this guy, isn't it ?

Does he really think someone can learn how to fire an actual firearm with a video game controller ? That thing doesn't simulate the weight of the weapon, how much your firing position affects your aim, how your breathing affects your aim, and the things like that.

You know what we should do?

We should take what we learn from playing Manhunt 2 on the Wii and kill Jack Thompson. That'll teach him to call it a Murder Simulator!

How come he didn't say anything about Call of Duty 3? It was very realistic and taught kids how to kill Germans with guns and tanks and grenades. I know how to drive a tank because of it!

And Red Steel. He said nothing about either of these.(unless I just didn't see it.)

He has a personal vendetta with Rockstar, and Manhunt is a lot more graphic than either CoD3 or RS.

You don't see Flight Simulator games getting banned because of 9/11, do you?

Thompson fails. I am unlucky and unfortunate enough to live in the same neighborhood as him.

Yes, Manhunt is a "Murder Training Device" while Super Mario Bros make kids stomp on each others heads...

Jack Thompson has tried far too many times and failed every time.

I don't see anything bad about this, actually I think it is good and healthy, cause you empty your anger in game, so you don't do it in real

Sadly and i mean really really sadly thats how this guy is.He jumps on any wagon he can so he can spout his hatred and his crap cause he's an anti gamer.

its no wonder he got booted out of gamepolitics.com for doing nothing but spamming and making threats telling people there to give out their name address and phone numbers

He must be one of those people who finds one tiny problem with a game and turn it into a big thing, when it's not. Its a video game that people play. Thats all it is.

I can't wait until he backs down. Then he'l see how pointless his argument is.

It is a murder training device, it prints a certificate out of the SD-Card port after you beat the game. Thats the whole point of the game, there's way too many uncertified murderers around right now. This is an effective solution to solve that problem and bring a diverse tool-set to the community so they know how to murder properly.

    Murder Training Device?

I doubt it takes much effort to club someone half to death anyway, the Wii would just make it safer so they don't do it in reality.
