Yerli forecasts that the next major CryEngine upgrade will arrive in 2012, around the same time he believes the next generation of console hardware will arrive.

I really think they are only saying this as they came to the consoles 3 years too late and they have a few games planned for the systems. The next consoles could easily come out in 2011 or earlier. This seems more and more likely for the PS3 if the PS3 Slim rumours are actually true. They only release the Slim when the console is on it's final couple of years of mainstream pushing, which would put the PS4 for about 2011.

PS3 is lasting until 2016. Wii 2, MAYBE in 2012, but it won't be anything stunning other than a small upgrade from the Wii Plus. The next Xbox, well, if they rush one out the door next gen like they did this gen, they'll probably have another faulty product seeing as they haven't even learned how to fix the RRoD yet.

Nobody's even touched the power of the PS3. Killzone 2 was just the start. An article confirms the PS3 has way more potential. WAY more. If that's any clue, than I look forward to seeing what games on the PS3 come out 2012-2016.

Technically Kave En is right. Sony has said that they'll support the PS3 for ten years, making 2016 the consoles life. I just don't think Kave En was thinking that when he posted his comment. Also I don't want to side with him.

Actually, they have found a fix for RROD. The new Xbox isn't coming out until 2015 AT LEAST.

You make the PS3 sound like the Second Coming, tbfh.

2016.. Well gee.. Umm that sucks for you Kave En as we'll all be playing out Playstation 4's and next Xbox's long before 2016. Personally I can see Sony cutting their losses and releasing the Playstation 4 based on upgraded PS3 hardware for an extremely low price.

Everyone no matter how biased they are towards Sony will admit that Sony are struggling currently. They are 3rd place to two consoles they never once questioned as competition. I see the unveiling of the Slim as the final 2 years of mainstream Playstation 3 giving us essentially a late 2011 release of Playstation 4.

As I said earlier the Slim is generally Sony's last gasp attempt at raking in the last few buyers before moving on. Sure it maybe a short lifespan of only 5 years in the mainstream, but they need to release an upgrade that will be cheap and will release before the competition. I believe it is no coincidence that the PS2 was their best selling console, it was cheap and launched a year ahead of it's rivals.
