Sweet. Any MMO that has no P2P is an instant win in my books. The PvP in the first series is fantastic, hope they keep that steady and...please get rid of heroes. It made the game feel more single-player-ish.

    Trailer was stunning.

^ The game always felt single-playerish, Heroes were no different to Henchmen imo. You could just customize them. You can only have three at a time too :/

But anyway: this game is going to be so damn good, the Jade Sea looked absolutely stunning in that teaser. I hope they keep to much of the format of the original (eight skills, relatively low level cap, small parties). Too WoW and I'll be very upset.

      quote
Will Guild Wars 2 be an MMO?

Yes. Guild Wars 2 provides a massive, online persistent world.

How is Guild Wars 2 different from other MMOs?

While Guild Wars 2 adds a persistent world, it retains the unique characteristics of the original game, including a strong narrative, extensive instanced game play, an anti-grind design philosophy, and strong support for competitive play.
      ______________________________________

How will character progression work? Will you be raising the level cap?

Guild Wars 2 will have the kind of extensive character advancement appropriate to a persistent world RPG. Our goal is to avoid forcing players into the grind-based gameplay that too often accompanies a high level cap.

Also, to allow players the freedom to play together even if their friends are at a much higher (or lower) level, we are planning to implement a strong sidekick system, similar to that used in City of Heroes.

We're applying this same philosophy to competitive play. Players will be able to engage in organized, balanced PvP (similar to GvG in the original Guild Wars) without first leveling up characters, finding equipment, and unlocking skills. While inside the organized PvP area, all characters will be the same power level and will have access to the same equipment.

Will Guild Wars 2 be solo-able?

Yes. You will be able to advance your character to the maximum level without ever joining a group if you so desire. Most content will be designed in a solo-friendly way, though often with mechanisms for scaling up in difficulty when more players are involved. This will give players the option to experience the game however they prefer.

At the same time, it is important for an MMO community to join together to overcome challenges. Guild Wars 2 will feature some challenges that require players join forces to conquer.

I've read some of that previous, but thanks. It really does look like they're meaning to stay faithful to the original games, like their hearts are in it. Best bit is their emphasis to avoid grind (ie the reason I still play Guild Wars and not other MMOs.)

I also, however, just read something that upsets me:
"The Dwarves, who pursued the Destroyers deep and long at the end of Eye of the North, are now deathless creatures of stone; the few who remain watch the ages go by, interacting little with the other sentient races, if at all."

They've killed off the Dwarves and not even introduced the Tengu, what's the point in multiple races only to kill off several of the series' biggest :/

That would explain why Dwarves are not playable in GW2... yet.

Well yeah, whilst you are able to do solo bits, I found it a lot more fun before Nightfall to do missions and quests with groups. After Heroes, the need for a group on a tough mission wasn't necessary with the right builds on your heroes.

Henchmen weren't anything special, and weren't used nearly as much as Heroes are now.

Well I don't know about you then, but me and my guildies generally opt for Henchmen over most real players most of the time, lol. Henchmen are one of my favourite things in the game and I've always used them, regularly. I do any quest I get with Henchmen, seeing as chances are you won't get a party for a quest anyway. Maybe pre-Factions I'd wait for a real party as the general level for Henchies was pretty low, but now that you get to level 20 in a few hours and all the Henchies act accordingly, they're pretty much a staple in regular play. Not everyone has good builds or skills unlocked account-wide, which means your Heroes will be dirt shit, where Henchmen are consistent.

Hm, well I didn't have a guild back then. xD Guildies would rather stick together, wouldn't want to throw in some random player, so I can understand the use of NPCs then. But eh, you can always ask people for a good build on your Heroes.

Henchmen I don't mind so much, but Heroes are like having eight more skills a piece.

There's websites for builds and stuff. Usually good ones too.

You can't make a build without the skills though. For instance, if I had a Monk hero, unless I've bought the skills previously with a Monk character or a character with Monk as a Secondary, then that means I'm limited to the Hero Skill Trainers to get skills for my Monk hero. If you're trying to make a good build, those trainers are worthless.

Well it takes like 10 minutes tops to get to a skill cap boss point, and there are good builds with some generic ones. Plus, you can purchase some skills with faction that you can use for your hero I believe.

Ah, see, I was a hardcore PVPer, to the point where I had one of every class, many leveled and pimped out through PVE JUST so I could look cool in PVP. So needless to say, I usually had the skills I needed.

Taking Halls was always so invigorating. Jeez, I'm such a nerd.

I saw the trailer and went crazy.

Thousands of hours were lent to the original, and I still hop on it every now and then. I can't wait.

Perhaps my favorite small thing about Guild Wars was how beautiful the scenery looked; it's not often in a game where you pause from questing or whatever and just to look at what the devs created; Cantha especially. From the looks of it, they kept that alive.

I think this tells us we need a Neoseeker guild!

        I second this. =D

Yeah I put many hours into the first series, hop on for some PvP here and there.

I still log on now and then to do a little PVE in Eye. I'm a bit PVPed out, except for Alliance Battles. PM me your username!

I've never gotten into PvP, been a PvE guy since launch

What? But PvP is arguably the best part about Guild Wars.

          We can play some PvE.

I just never got into a good Guild, and PvP is a very Guildies-orientated thing. Pretty much every guild I've been in has been very small-time, just a group of nice guys helping each other out with PvE and whatever. I just never got the experience that I'd have liked to, which kind of sucks considering it's a little bit late now.

I've still got you added on my friends list if you come on

I think there's been maybe four over the course of the Guild Wars forum, unless you mean for Guild wars 2 . The most significant I can remember was Xenctuary's seeing as he had like, infinite money and a filled out Hall.

That was in regards to a Neoseeker Guild; wrong text box.

        RabidChinaGirl Aug 21, 09
Oh, I don't frequent the forums much, so I guess I didn't see. And yeah, that applies to GW 2, whenever it rolls around!

Then I think it's especially important we make sure Guild Wars 2 gets an active forum and Guild before it's too late
