Electronic Theatre reports on the revelation that the newly redesigned PlayStation 3 will play host to a similarly redesigned Cell processor, utilising a 45-nanometer manufacturing process.

Featuring an entirely new Cell processor based on the same Core architecture of the original PLAYSTATION 3 console, the PlayStation 3 will reportedly utilise a manufacturing process allowing 45-nanometer semiconductors, which decrease data loss considerably and, of course, produces a considerably small processor. The PLAYSTATION 3 hosted a Cell processor manufactured using the 65-nm process. With the new processor being a joint project between Sony, IBM and Toshiba, it’s highly likely that the PlayStation 3 will utilise IBM’s 45-nanometer manufacturing platform established in 2007.
