Square Enix have just announced a new RPG for the DS. The game, titled Cross Treasures, is a collaborative project with the monthly Japanese manga publication, V-Jump. The game will make extensive use of its co-operative multiplayer system, but will also feature a fleshed out single-player experience. Judging by the screens they've revealed with the announcement, it seems like an action RPG.

Square Enix announced Cross Treasures, a brand new Nintendo DS RPG developed with assistance from monthly manga mag V-Jump.

Feedback submitted by V-Jump readers is being implemented into the game and Shinya Suzuki, the illustrator of Mr. Fullswing, is acting as the game’s character designer.

Aside from the V-Jump collaboration, Cross Treasures has a creative networking component. Each player can create and customize his or her game world and invite other people in. Up to four players can link up and battle monsters in a multiplayer session. Your custom world is also connected to worlds made by your friends resulting in a Cross Treasures multiverse.

Not interested in network play? Cross Treasures will have a single player story to follow too.

Cross Treasures is scheduled to come out later this year in Japan. A North American release has not been announced at this time.
