Kotaku reports that Square is planning on shipping the 360 version of Final Fantasy XIII on "about" three discs- the game's compression hasn't been completed, so it could very well be more, or less.

Also, those hoping for the option of Japanese voices in the English versions will be disappointed, as Square has no plans to do so.

Final Fantasy XIII director Motomu Toriyama said during our Q&A session today that, while the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game will be identical in content, Xbox 360 owners will at some point have to get up off the couch. He said to expect "about" three discs' worth of content, when all is said and done.

Toriyama says that we should expect about 40 to 50 hours worth of gameplay for the main quest, so a minute or two dedicated to ejecting, swapping and reloading probably won't mean much in the long run. Perhaps a sandwich could be made during this time period?

    Title sorta contradicts the article.

    Title = 'will'
    Article = 'might'

This is what most people were expecting either way.

Eh, no biggy. Getting the PS3 version anyway, I like my FF's on the Sony console. Lost Odyssey was four discs and it was epic.

If there still compressing it, it would be less discs not more.

"Sir we have completed compressing the game"
"Great how much space did we save"
"Actually... we gained 5gigs of space"
    "How does that work out?"
    "I dont know. "

Actually it means that they haven't completed the process of compressing the game yet, that the 3 discs is only an estimate, and the final number will be determined when they finish the compression. Hell, they haven't even finished porting the game to the 360 yet.

So yes, it may be more or less than 3 discs.

My friend has a PS3 and a 360, and he says he'll get this on 360 because most of his friends own a 360. When I told him it doesn't matter since there's no online in FFXIII, he just says "it just feels right this way"

And it was so ironic for this guy because he spent the longest time wanting it on PS3, but as soon as it ported he was all pro-360 (and when I say pro-360, I mean he hates PS3 and hasn't turned his on for a year and a half).

Whats the sense of even buying it if your just going to turn around and say I hate it and proceed to buy a 360. Nothing wrong with the PS3 it just got a slow start, like all Sony consoles.

Thing is unlike PS2, PS3 didn't hit with a huge gigantic smash automatically placing first place before the next gen consoles where announced. Add that with the already installed based on PS2 people where just "EXPECTING" PS3 to be even bigger right from the bat which is impossible. Even the 360 had to work to get popular. (Wii just had the press do all the work)

Well with Sony's price cut if I'll get a PS3 I'm definately getting this game on it. I just hate playing my games only for a sign saying "please insert disc 2"

At least we still get to see previous locations right?

Wow, Lost Odyssey is 4 and the 4 year long in the making FF13 is only 3. I feel a little shafted

Tbh with you, i really couldn't care less about it being on 3 or more discs, why? because all the BEST Final Fantasy's have been on multiple discs and i'm not so lazy that i can't get off my ass and actually switch the discs.

Even though i'll have a PS3 by the time this releases, so i have no effin clue what i'll be getting this on, will have to wait and see.

Considering there are very few FF's using two or more discs in existence (to my knowledge) I guess there aren't a lot of good FF games.

If it we're me, I would get it on the PS3 simply because there is only one disc instead of three of them. Disc Swapping gets annoying, quick.

Haaa lemme see things right, I forgot about the other ones that are only on one disc.

I should have said that all the best ones were the ones that were either on multiple discs or came BEFORE the multidiscs. So basically i'm saying the PS2 games sucked ass.

People really shouldnt worry about disc changing. They may benefit from getting off the couch. Overall, I am just happy we get a single player game across two consoles, which we can all discuss, not just PS3 owners. Since I no longer have a 360, I will be getting it on my new PS3. But I am glad that 360 owners can laise with the PS3 community and discuss the game!

    I miss Lost Oddyssey though!

i know, whats so hard about getting your fat ass of the couch? if its hard for you, then you shouldnt be playing video games in the first place. im used to changing discs from back in the PSX days.

I know!!! It was also good as it gave you a minute to reflect on what happened. For me, it was sheer sadness because I got Aerith the Princess Guard weapon on FF7!

Now I need FF6, FF8 and of course, the lovely FF9 to hit the PSN store. Then I can die a happy man.

You know, i've been playing Star Ocean 4 alot recently on my 360 and at the end game you have to switch discs ALOT if you want to collect everything and i may have switched discs about 80 times now and i really don't see what the big problem is, it takes about 10seconds to swap the goddamn disc!

          Shinobi_razor Aug 23, 09
why do you have to swap discs that many times in SO4?

          Red 9 Aug 23, 09
Because different locations, story segments and content is on different discs. I've never had a game where I've had to switch discs, so I'm not desensitized to it. Therefore I may have more of a problem with disc changing than anyone else.

I also don't really care about it being on multiple discs,as long as it's still the exact same game that's being released on the PS3.

I never had a problem with it when they did it with Star Ocean 4.

If it means more game, bring on more discs!

Yeah, More discs is alright for me. Gives me a good reason to shut my 360 down after each one.

Man people here are missing the point. The point should not be that you will only have to get up and change a disc every now and then. The point should be that compression causes a loss in quality. That is a fact.

The other reasons my PS3 will be the platform of choice for this game is I am afraid to run a marathon session of my XBOX. It tends to get wiggy. Also, I have and problem with every couple of games I get not playing on my Box. Fable II comes to mind. The non standard components in the MS product make me wonder if it will even play the game. Sony, standard components by the same manufacturer; I have never had playback issues unless a game was damaged.

All in all, I am much more confident in my gaming experience with the PS3 version. I am just waiting for MS to try and buy timed release in NA. It will happen.

"Also, those hoping for the option of Japanese voices in the English versions will be disappointed, as Square has no plans to do so."

They should at least release it on PSN and XBL for those who want it. They could even charge for it.

I "might" the game. I "will" get annoyed if it sucks.
