Gamers with a home theatre system, or any high-end audio set up, will be glad to know the PS3 Slim comes with an updated audio feature.

The PS3 couldn’t bitstream Dolby TrueHD, and DTS-HD Master Audio. Instead, it had to decode it and send it to your receiver as Linear PCM. That’s a thing of the past as the new PS3 slim can bitstream HD audio output to your receiver. If you have a basic set up for your PS3, you probably won't notice the difference, but gamers who have invested in an expensive audio system will appreciate the lossless audio.

I think it will actually improve you sound quality.
I have faith in Sony for some strange reason.

Unless your sound system cost more than 1500 dollars you aren't going to notice any difference.

Not to mention Linear PCM is essentially the same thing. The only difference is the PS3 decodes it and then sends it to the receiver. Now with BitStream it essentially the send the file uncompressed to the receiver which will then do the same decoding to Linear PCM by the time you hear it. Linear PCM is lossless and always will be, BitStream just allows the users receiver to do the grunt work if they feel their receiver is better than the soundcard in the PS3.

I do have hopes for this but, I think unless you have a really expensive audio setup, there'll be no big difference.

Even with the expensive audio setup it'll sound the same. Things like BitStream are invented by audiophiles for audiophiles of whom will never be happy with the way something sounds. Linear PCM is BitStream at the end of the day so all this adds is that the PS3 now does both and they both sound the same. They are both lossless methods of rendering sound.
