In an interview with Naughty Dog, it is revealed that the game Uncharted 2, scheduled for release in October, could not be developed for the 360 due to the superior hardware of the PS3.

"I guarantee that this game couldn't be working on XBox 360. It would be impossible. I'm 100 percent sure of this." Christophe Balestra, co-president of Naughty Dog, spoke with Ars about the technology behind Uncharted 2, the hugely anticipated follow-up to one of the PS3's best games: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. "First of all, we fill the Blu-ray 100 percent, we have no room left on this one. We have 25GB of data; we're using every single bit of it."

How many times have we heard this? Have they actually tried developing it with 360 hardware? I'm not complaining. Its just, everyone seems to use this comment a lot, but does anyone actually have any proof to back up the statement?

Of course it's not possible on the 360. The series is owned by franchise, and they're not gonna give the franchise to the enemy. All they're doing is speaking the obvious.

Depends what they mean by impossible. For instance, hardware wise its probably possible, provided you compress it and put it on a couple of disks. As Musikon said however, the franchise is owned directly by Sony, in that sense its impossible.

Well, if you compare this to games like RAGE, it's sort of the same thing. The 360 version is shipping on multiple discs, and the PS3 version is going to have more content.

That proves nothing aside from Blu-ray having more space...

They really throw out that phrase too much.

Actually I don't see much "fanboy" in his/her comment here. Pretty much all that's being said is the difference between BD and DVD. MANY people say this, it's not a fanboyish comment IMO.

I think if they really want to throw out the phrase so much, the should do it comparing PSP to DS/DSi.

"Dissidia is only possible on Playsation Portable"

I doubt anyone would be able to honestly argue that.

haha there you go! We should start that, it might catch on and the other articles might stop . . . think so?

Possibly, the PS3 and 360 are too close in power to definitively state that a game is only technologically possible on one or the other.

The PSP and DS on the other hand... in terms of sheer tech power, the PSP is about as strong as a PS2(I think it has the same graphics card, and a slightly better motherboard), with the only thing holding it back being the size of the UMD disks(1.9gb isn't much to work with when you have that kind of power) whereas the DS is about N64 in terms of capability.

True. BUT, when made by Kave En, a notorious fanboy, it's blatant that it was posted for completely fanboyish purposes, without a doubt.

PS3 gamer right here and i can say that bluray is great but the only thing it offers is A MASSIVE Amount of memory.

for 360 to get better graphic quality they just need more memory so they go multiple discs and there you have it uncharted 2 quality graphics.(multiple disc cost is a problem but the compress games for a reason)

more discs= more space to work with= better shit!! and theres a good reason to save your game to the hard drive thats why MS gave you ppl the feature. USE IT.

I'm beginning to get sick of these "-Game name here- not possible on -console-"

We all know it's bull, the only reason Uncharted isn't possible on 360 is because it's made by naughty dog. The PS3 and 360 have near enough the exact same graphics power so they'll always be equals, graphics are not a problem. Only bad thing would be it'd be on multiple discs.

Ehhh, There are SOME games that are not possible on one console that is possible only on this other console. However, much of it has to do with the "HOW" the devs made this or that work. I'm sure if they tried hard enough it might come pretty close to the same. They would just have to do it a different way.

But even though there are relatively few actual impossiblities like that . . .

I agree, I hate these "________ not possible on ______" It's almost as bad as the "Game Killer" trash.

Thats the thing people forget the PS3 CELL archetecture has more cores than Xbox 360. It's very easy to make a game unplayable on another console if you used 7 cores to get it to run at that level and the other console only has 3 cores. That is the advantage, Naughty Dog never once said the PS3 was more powerful they just said superior hardware and YES having more cores makes their CPU superior for parrallel processing. They are not saying they couldn't make something like this on 360 focusing on all 3 cores but processing wise it wouldn't be as deep. Though that has always been the case even now I haven't seen an Xbox 360 game with the bullet physics of Resistance, but that is the only advantage Sony have more processing power cores wise to do more shit in one cycle.

I was actually really hoping to explain why this doesn't matter, then I realised who posted the article, and from then on I realised it would fall on dead ears.

A lot of people are countering this by saying "Well of course they're going to say this, they're Sony developers!"

OK then, using that logic - can anyone tell me the last time a Microsoft-owned or affiliated developer came out and said that, from a PURELY TECHNICAL STANDPOINT, a game was only possible on the Xbox 360?

Xeros the Slayer Aug 29, 09
      I'll take this one.

Never, because unlike Sony reps who even some Sony fans don't like from what I've seen(check out one of the articles on the Slim to see that) most of MS reps don't come across as douche bags with their head stuck up their ass.

They'll say "_________ is exclusive" but they aren't so pretentious as to say it's only possible on their console.

        They honestly do.

Don't get me wrong though, Taker's point holds no water, especially since any PS3 exclusive could come to 360 (technologically) if the gamer in question has the ability to change discs, something which is nowhere near as much of a problem as retards would make it seem.

Nice job guys for neither of you answering the question. Guess that means I was correct - the reason no developer has said it is because they can't.

I'm sure if the shoe was on the other foot, Microsoft developers would spare no expense saying exactly the same thing as Sony developers are. Heck, they certainly didn't shy away from bigging up the Xbox's technical superiority over the PS2.

My point is simply that Naughty Dog are not doing anything different than what Microsoft would do if the 360 was the superior piece of hardware.

How did I not answer your question?

I said "Never" as in they've never "said that, from a PURELY TECHNICAL STANDPOINT, a game was only possible on the Xbox 360" and went on to explain why.

NOTHING has utilized any of the extra processors or larger disk spaces to the extent where it simply can't be done on the 360. Any game put on either console COULD be played on the other, but it doesn't mean it would(because of exclusive deals and ownership).

They only say it because it belittles the 360 and Wii, which is how they do their marketing.

However, if they put the time and money into making a game that used 100% of the console's abilities, they could say this.

"This game could be so awesome it'll kill your family whenever you turn it on"

However, at the time, it would continue like this.
"BUT, the developers are too damn lazy to use any of our super sexy tech and make it more powerful than something on a PC. That's right, they could have made it even better than something on a PC, which had *bleep*ing Crysis, but those lazy sunsabitches DIDN'T. Hate them, not us"

At first I thought this was 'Uncharted 2 possible on 360' and felt refreshed to see that the hopeless hopes of 360 fans were being articleised (not a word, I don't care) too, since I've seen so many '*exclusive 360 game* might come to PS3' (along with so many '*exclusive 360 game* won't ever come to PS3') I was actually beginning to feel bile rising in my throat. It was quelled somewhat when I saw 'journalists' focussing on the other side as well.

Then order was restored when I saw who posted the article, read the actual title and vomited out of sheer annoyance.

Factually speaking, it's not possible because PS3 uses a bigger disk. Maybe it would take longer to make too.

Article summarised, mindless fan boy BS avoided.
