Accoring to Metal Gear series creator Hideo Kojima, the two teams working on Metal Gear Solid: Rising and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker "are not good friends" and have a bit of rivalry going on between them. One of the reasons the teams aren't too keen on each other is because the MGS: Peace Walker team recieved the short end of the stick when it came to money and hardware specs.

But this might be a good thing. If the two teams are competing against each other, this can only mean they are trying their best to produce the better game. Good news for gamers?

According to Hideo Kojima, the two separate teams working on Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and Metal Gear Solid: Rising "are not really good friends." In a GamePro exclusive interview with Kojima at GamesCom, the creator of the Metal Gear Solid franchise said the reason they are not good friends is because the Rising team has access to more money and is working with higher-end technology and hardware specs. "That's the one reason why they are not good friends," said Kojima.

Is the Peace Walker PSP team envious of the Rising team? Pretty much. "If you could imagine the PSP team looking at the Rising team," explained Kojima, "they have all the money and specs."

Kojima didn't seem frustrated with the competitive team dynamics; in fact it was quite comical to him. "It's interesting for me to see the team members act in this way," laughed Kojima, "This was never before because it was always just one small team. Now we are much bigger."

Either they'll try to best each other and 'good news for gamers', or they'll be little bitches about everything and spend time arguing/complaining and planning sabotage or other such bitchy bullshit.

Great! Another reason to stay the *bleep* away from Rising.

I don't see why the Peace Walker team is complaining about money. You can't expect a multiplatform console game to have the same level of support as a PSP one, so unless Konami really, really cut into their budget...

I believe the Peace Walker team is made up of the same team that made Metal Gear Solid 4 and Peace Walker is Kojima's spiritual Metal Gear Solid 5. So I guess to them they believe it should be on PS3 with a huge budget like they had before. Instead the team for Metal Gear Solid: Rising have the huge budget and the hardware advantage. I feel the rivalry maybe more down to Rising not being a true Metal Gear Solid game hinted from the "Lightning Bolt Action" slogan under the name itself. I think the rivalry maybe more than money and hardware and more because the Peace Walker team just don't like the idea of Rising. I mean Kojima didn't seem too excited about the game when he unveiled it at E3 and he's the director, god knows how the rest feel.

A fine example they're setting for the already massively whiny gaming community, rampant with needless hate. Hey, developers, don't start acting like your fans.

Aside from that, gamers are way too afraid of change. Waaah, why won't this RTS have base-building? Waaah, why isn't this game stealth? WAAAAAH!! CRY SUM MOAR. And when a game is similar to another game, it's a "rip-off." Omg, it's an action game? It must be a God of War rip-off! Someone call the goddamn WAAAAmbulance.

Rising hasn't interested me one bit. I made a point to make MGS4 my last MG game for a reason, and that reason hasn't changed. If I had a PSP though I'd pick up PW just because its still part of the original story arc. Rising just looks like some gimmick so 360 owners can say "hey! we have MGS!" Thats not why I don't want the game though so don't just read that line and scream fanboy.

I don't know, I don't think I can blame them for the rivalry. Though it doesn't matter, even when limited on resources they've managed to evolve MGS once again by introducing great new gameplay features; and on the PSP nonetheless.

Ever since I heard that Rising and Peace Walker were in development, I have followed only one of them studiously. I haven't even looked at the other one. Yes, Rising does not really deserve my attention at this stage, Peace Walker is turning up the good all the time and Rising has... Raiden. So, yeah.
I will probably end up playing Rising at some stage, after it's either Platinum, or the price has dropped. I'm actually going to buy a PSP Go! to play Peace walker on- "All new 'Gear' for my all new Gear"! Because Snake is Snake, It is the first ever co-op MGs game, and it might actually tell the Rise of Big Boss story better than the shambles Portable Ops made out of it.
