Tired of waiting 3-4 or more years for each Final Fantasy game to be released? Well, wait no more. Square Enix's Yoshi Kitase and Motomu Toriyama recently told vg247.com that, now that they have the engine built for it the basics are covered, they are aiming to shorten development time for future Final Fantasy games.

Us at GamesCom: Yoichi Wada has said that he wants the development rate to go a bit faster. Is this possible and what is the development team doing to help speed things along for the future?

FFXIII’s Yoshi Kitase and Motomu Toriyama, speaking through a translator: For FFXIII there are a lot of firsts, and because it’s a new console that the teams are working on, it took a little time for the team to get used to everything. Now that they have the engine built for it the basics are covered, so the development time for future projects should be shortened.
Still, it may not be as simple as Wada thinks (laughing).

I fail to see the problem with a 400 Hour FF.

If the fact that it's a new console has anything to do with it, then why did XII take so long?

They couldn't decide whether or not they should release such a horrible game.

I'm not sure, they did manage to release three worst single player FF games, one after another before XII.

FFX wasn't bad? Or can I not count in roman numerals?

Going by his accounts, he means that VIII, IX, and X were the three worst FF games since he says the three worst single players experiences before XII.

Now having not played IX, but having loved VIII and X, I can kindly say WTF to that. Unless he means X-2, in which case, good man.

He probably means the spinoffs, mainly X-2, Dirge of Cerberus and such, which were pretty bad.

Like I said, I was taking into account you that you probably didn't mean spin-offs(such as X-2) and thus figured you were adding XIII to that list. *bleep* IX and X. While I liked X, I still had issues with it.

          XII sucked.

Maybe the next couple of games, but when the next generation consoles come out, they'll have to redevelop a new engine, and the process starts all over again.

    Dissapointment all around!

The sad thing is that they'll likely only get 2 or 3 games out this generation anyway. So they basically spent 4 years building an engine and then as you said, start all over again
