it has just been reported that PS3 sales have increased by 1000% over last week. So, it appears Sony's price drop and new PS3 Slim have been extremely effective in selling hardware. Did you contribute to that 1000% percent this week?

No I didn't and Sony are not 1000% richer they have sold 1000% more units than last month but they still aren't making a profit so they made nothing from this spike in sales.

That's like saying being $10,000 in debt is just as bad as being $5,000 in debt or vice-versa, which just isn't true.

Sure things still aren't going spectacularly well for Sony, but to say that this hasn't helped them at all is just...well, wrong, honestly.

no. i bought an xbox 360. i'm not buying another current-gen console ever. 360 released first, i got it first, i dont need any more consoles that are more or less the same damn thing.

Wow, kinda . . . harsh, eh? I found enough differences in the two, to see them as far from the same thing. So I have both.

Of course I like the games for the PS3, but I also like some of the games for the 360, so that's why I got them.

How's that harsh? He uses consoles to play games. He's happy with the one he has without wanting another. End of.

Harsh . . . well should have said: Strong instead, speaking of the WAY he said it

Apologies, Bandito, it's not meant negatively, merely an observation

its just a bold statement that you will never buy more than one console during a generation. If you don't have the money for it thats fine, but every console has their own exclusive games and features, and it seems odd to limit yourself to one console.

Tiger of Wu Sep 10, 09
That's not a bold statement at all. If you only use consoles to game and get everything else from other things then, not counting a want for exclusives, you only need one. He has one and doesn't care much for the exclusives, so he doesn't need the other one. That's not bold at all.

(That's what I was mentioning, the whole exclusives thing. That's about the only reason I can see someone buying multiple consoles this gen)

Nah it's not the bold statement that I was meaning when I said harsh. It's the WAY it was said . . . kinda strong. As if to say I'm NEVER buying another one this gen, EVER!!! As if he had been fighting against someone with his words. That's all. Nothing wrong with what was said, I just misused harsh and should have said Strong due to the WAY he said it, which seemed, well as if he were fighting against someone who demanded he do something he didn't want to do.

Well then it's a good thing I was replying to Trex and not you then

Generally if there are two comments and one of them mentions the term bold statement and someone replied quoting bold statement they're probably replying to the one which said bold statement, not the one that didn't xD

There is a few good reason*** to own the latest XBOX model ... BUT if you want to change RIGHT NOW you should think about the PS3 SLIM ...

***60 GB hard drive, reliable , not so noisy , HDMI output , reduced power consumption.

      @tiger of wu

the original person doesn't mention anything about exclusives. just that he/she doesn't want another current-gen console ever. there are plenty of differences between ps3 and 360 to warrant a pick up of both systems....if you have the money

plus, how can u not love home? you can do the robot!

Every other feature on both consoles that doesn't pertain to playing games has some form of other thing that does it. They play music; he's got a stereo. They play blu-ray; he's got a blu-ray player for a quarter of the price. PS3 has Home; he goes to Habbo Hotel (or, the more realistic option, he just doesn't care about it ).

The point is everything that isn't playing games can be got elsewhere, thus the extra features mean nothing to the individual who already has a way to get the ones he/she wants and doesn't care about the rest. Therefore another current-gen console, to that individual, would be a massive waste of money.

I'm sorry but 1000% is way too much to believe =| I just, can't see it being THAT much.

And no, i didn't contribute and when i DO contribute in December it won't be to that ugly ass looking slim model.

its only a 1000% percent increase over last week, and last week there was a HUGE dip in sales, in anticipation for the launch of the slim. PS3 Slim sales arn't that much higher, but compared to last week, they are.
      • 0
        Daweii Sep 10, 09
Actually they are much higher I mean for months the PS3 has averaged about 25,000 sales a month worldwide. Well in Japan alone it's already about 200,000 sales this current month and rumours are in week 1 worldwide the Slim shifted about 700,000 units and will be pushing to get to a million by the end of this week. So yes it's a 1000% increase over last months sales but it does mean a huge spike in sales. Sony with this spike are looking to sell the same amount of consoles they would sell in about 5 months in a few weeks.

yes, there were more numbers being released today, and Sony will have massive sales for this month, and probably up untill christmas.

That's good to know, Sony deserves these sales.

Sony makes more than consoles...which means they'd have to sell a 1000% more of everything including walkmans, vaios, tv's, etc... Also, as stated before they really aren't making much(if any) profit on consoles. So they're slightly richer, unless of course all the people who bought PS3s also bought a bunch of first-party games and controllers and things.

      Trexman89 Sep 11, 09
yea, its a stupid title, but not misleading. Sales did increase by 1000%.

Tiger of Wu Sep 11, 09
But Sony isn't 1000% richer, they just had a 1000% sales increase. So yes. Misleading.

          Trexman89 Sep 11, 09
in terms of ps3 revenue only, sony is 1000% richer....the company as a whole isn't but if you look at just ps3 sales it is. sales increased by 1000%, so the amount of revenue brought in by ps3 sales increased 1000%
        • 0
Tiger of Wu Sep 11, 09
Sales increased by 1000%. This does not equal Sony, or even the PS3 department, being 1000% richer. Do you know why? Because to think they're 1000% richer from that is to assume that originally that part of the company was worth the price of whatever the weekly profit on PS3s is, which is profoundly stupid. So it is misleading, clearly.

When I bought my PS3 it was so expensive. I could have saved money by buying it now, but hey, I'm glad I got it early instead.

yea, and u have backwards compatibility too.
      • 0
        HisServant77 Sep 11, 09
Exactly! See I knew that as time went by they'd be making the PS3's cheaper by taking some good things out. That's the main reason I made sure to get one for launch! Card Readers, four USB ports . . . BC . . . ah so nice

I don't get it. Was this a fanbait article? There was some sort of anti-360 dig that I missed? No? The *bleep* is everyone getting worked up about???

Star of Spurs* Sep 11, 09
The title screams fanboy bait, well done sir. You could have at least said something like 'Sony Win The Week' instead of implying in the title they're 1000% richer than Microsoft or Nintendo.
    • 1
      Seeker X Sep 11, 09
Wha-- How--Where???? The title's not implying a damn thing other than the PS3's rise in sales. There is NO "PS3 > 360" ANYWHERE.

      quote
PS3 software sales have increased by 17 per cent in terms of units over week 35 to claim third place behind Xbox 360 and Wii, while in terms of value software sales have increased by 5 per cent to remain second behind 360 games.
Do yourselves a favor, people, and read the articles first before trolling.

To add to that saying Sony win the week would invite shitstorms of 'So what, 360 beat them overall LOL' and 'Nintendo win the year epic win win win lmfao turd'. 1000% richer in this case means richer then they were before; it's not instigating anything to do with the other consoles (even if it is a load of shit to begin with). Well done sir.
