In an interview with GameSpot, Sega's associate brand manager Ken Balough unveiled Project Needlemouse accompanied with a trailer.

Slated for a 2010 release, according to Balough, Project Needlemouse is the "critical first step that brings Sonic back to his 2D roots", in response to Sonic's fans clamoring for the gameplay of old.

While the platforms are currently unknown, Balough has stated that it will be in HD.

The teaser trailer, with the old Sega intro and Sonic sound effects, is available at the source.

Since he debuted just under years ago, Sonic the Hedgehog has been Sega's mainstay mascot. Today, the Japanese publisher revealed that it working on an all-new reinvention of the titular spiny spinner by taking him back to his two dimensional roots.

The new game, code-named Project Needlemouse, will debut sometime next year on as-yet unidentified consoles. So far, the only glimpse of the game has come via a mysterious teaser trailer, which only shows the outline of the new look of the hero at the end.

"Speed returns in an all new 2D adventure built from the ground up" declares the teaser trailer, before showing a blue blur zipping across the screen scooping up golden rings. Accompanying it is a litany of sound effects and visual cues from the first Sonic the Hedgehog, who launched worldwide in the summer of 1991 on the Sega Genesis system.

Knuckles was never a bad guy. Learn your Sonic stories.

He was someone to fight, correct? Wasn't he the guardian of the chaos emeralds, and Sonic had to fight him?

The above two clearly overlooked the fact that Knuckles was duped by Robotnik.

The fact he was tricked into being a bad guy doesn't change that he was a bad guy.

          Pizzow.

Exactly. He was someone who went against you in the game, which puts him as an enemy for that game. Easy to understand.

yup, he sure was a bad guy, regardless of him being tricked by Robotnik or not. it was even in the Sonic Archie comic series which i used to collect like a maniac.

Knuckles, for no reason whatsoever, was never against Sonic at all. Robotnik tricked Knuckles into thinking Sonic was there to steal the emeralds. I fail to see how someone is taken advantage of is considered to be the "bad guy".

Knuckles is considered to be Sonic's friendly rival.

ok, you would agree that "bad guy" and "antagonist" mean the same thing right? the definition of antagonist is someone who goes against or countermands the works or actions of the protagonist. Sonic is the protagonist obviously, Knuckles was doing things to countermand Sonic. the fact that he was tricked by Robotnik doesnt even factor into it, Knuckles has free will and he decided to believe Robotnik's lies. its not like Robotnik forced him to act against Sonic. therefore Knuckles = antagonist = bad guy. QED.

It's not hard to get, really. Knuckles worked for Robotnik. He fought against Sonic as an antagonist. He was a bad guy. That's not to say he didn't change and come to his senses later on, but at that point he was working for Robotnik, the big, bad, evil boss. Someone who works for the big, bad, evil boss, tricked or not, is a bad guy. It's not rocket science.

Edit: Ninja'd by Shinobi... how unironic.

          http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/antagonist says:

          quote
a person who is opposed to, struggles against, or competes with another; opponent; adversary.
Doesn't say anything about a bad guy. With your "definition", you're saying Gary Oak wants to hinder Ash Ketchum's progress when he really is just ahead. An antagonist can just as easily be a schoolyard friend for the big race.

          quote The same website
the adversary of the hero or protagonist of a drama or other literary work: Iago is the antagonist of Othello.

wow, and the real definition is SO much different than the one i gave. its the same as what i said, just in different words.

          quote
Doesn't say anything about a bad guy.
if youre too daft to not understand that antagonist and bad guy are synonyms, then theres no point even arguing with you.

          quote

ok if this is some Pokemon reference, then i have no clue what your talking about...

          quote
An antagonist can just as easily be a schoolyard friend for the big race.
yeah, it can. even someone who is a friendly competitor can be considered an antagonist. Knuckles is now more a friendly rival of Sonic, but back then, he was a bad guy. he is still an antagonist of sorts, but back then he was an ANTAGONIST, an actual bad guy. he was out to make Sonic fail in his mission. didnt you even fight him once as a boss in Sonic 3 i think it was?

HD? I guess that means the only console I own will be excluded. Fuuuuuck

      HisServant77 Sep 9, 09
Unless they have a Wii version Lots of games claim HD but they hardly mention that HD is for the HD-compatible consoles, and that there will be another version for the other consoles. People just get hooked on the "HD," so they seldom bother saying much else in advertising the game.

Feel sorry for all the Wii owners, the mention of the new 2D Sonic being a HD game means that the Wii cannot play it. Ouch.

I'm with Bandito on this one. Sonic, Tails and Knuckles and it'll be awesome. I also liked it when it was Dr. Robotnik, not Eggman.

Yes, I'd prefer Robotnik too! Sadly though, I don't think we'll EVER see the name Robotnik instead of Eggman.

...that's a piece of artwork done by a guy who wanted to see old games in detail and whatnot. He did it with one of the Marios and Metroid too, if memory serves.
