Blu-ray or HD-DVD? Cut off an arm or a leg? Sink or swim? All tough choices on the best of days. Well, while Blu-ray players slooowly drop in price (BDP-S300 now at $499) and HD-DVD remains the cheaper option, apparently Wal-Mart is hacking its Xbox 360 HD-DVD player down to $60 USD! Surely not!

According to a super brief post over at MaxConsole, American retail behemoth Wal-Mart appears to be selling the standalone (Toshiba-built) Xbox 360 HD-DVD player for a mere $60 USD. Indeed, the bold receipt they have emblazoned on the site certainly indicates as much. Yet, we’d advise you take that with the pinch of salt it deserves, not least because Wal-Mart’s online pages still show the HD-DVD player for $199 USD, and a price drop of approx. $140 would surely make the ‘proper’ headlines.

seems kinda doubtful that's way too cheap for an hd dvd player, that's not much more than the price of a new game.

That's a pretty low price. Are they desperate to sell, or is the product not worth it? Either way, I might end up getting one.

Something is obviously wrong here. If Walmart was really dropping the price, they would be advertising it heavily as well as changing the price on the website.

Someone either doctored the receipt scan or bought one that had been damaged or something.

Sweet. Maybe I should get one of these in advance for my soon to have 360 in case they decide to bring it back up. Maybe this is some odd and not very helpful backlash at the anti Wal-Mart commercials I've been seeing lately. "Wal-Mart. It's just not American anymore." Powerful stuff.

Wow that's a huge price drop. Those things would sell like hot cakes I bet if this price drop happened.

Probably a pricing error for that one lucky fellow. I got this drive on sale at Toys R Us for $150 CAD (~$140 USD) last month. Don't forget this thing works on PC's too if you have the latest WinDVD or PowerDVD versions because it is just an HD-DVD ROM in a USB enclosure. I'd snap up one or two more in an instant at $60USD.

The actual receipt says DVD player for $60. No reference to XBOX or HD-DVD or anything of the sort so I expect this is 100% rumor and 0% fact.
