As soon as firmware 3.0 launched, it was met with tremendous outcry about the huge grey boxes around your friend's names. SCEE’s PS3 Brand Manager, Mark Bowles, admitted that “updates to firmware don’t always suit everyone’s tastes.” The friends list, according to Bowles, is being “looking into based on your comments.” In addition, he added, “We really do appreciate the feedback you guys give us, both positive and negative.”

Hopefully, Sony will be releasing firmware 3.01 soon to get rid of the giant grey boxes.

Thanks for fixing the 'problems', Sony. Even though people are just being whiny bitches, thanks for being mature about it.

Why wouldn't they be mature about it? They are a multi billion dollar organisation you don't get there by emulating the crying and whining their fanboys make at every update.

Yes of course we are whiny bitches because we don't like something Sony did with the PS3

I suppose everyone that complains when a FW update screws up some sort of functionality of the PS3 are whiny bitches too!?

But I wouldn't expect a post any differently from you.

They are problems that Sony introduced. I didn't ask for firmware 3.0....it was forced upon me. So yeah, I have every single right to bitch about a feature I don't like that I never intended to have/use.

yea, i like everything else in the update. bigger icons, whats new, etc...but the grey boxes are ugly as hell, and it should be a simple fix to remove them

The gray boxes do nothing but help you see whats written... The people who whine about it are worrying about the cosmetics of the xmb and to me thats rather dumb.

it is a pure aesthetics problem. if the boxes were transparent, it would look much nicer.

Make it so I can turn it off and you'll never hear from me again.

Good to hear this, the gray boxes are terrible to be honest.

I really like the look of the first mock-up at the source.
