Polyphony Digital has decided to team up with the PS Eye and support head tracking for Gran Turismo 5. You will be able to change the angle of the camera inside the cockpit, just by moving your head.

Polyphony Digital stated the following:

“…the movement of Cockpit Camera interface (confirmed in full 3-D. The camera can be fully manipulated and you can opt to have your head tracked by the PSEye)”

Of course, you will have to buy the PS Eye to take advantage of this feature.

Just a thought but if the Playstation Eye can do this I mean head tracking then what are people going to be actually buying with Natal on Xbox 360? As head and body tracking is that peripherals killer "advantage" but the Playstation Eye can do it and that tech is over 2 years old. To me it just makes Sony's motion control ambitions even better as Microsoft will probably charge upwards of $150/200 for Natal when Sony has the Playstation Eye and Wand combo for $80 maximum and it does exactly the same things if not more.

Microsoft is pretending that motion control without a controller is the future of gaming, and its the coolest thing ever. You can tell Sony figured out that didn't work with the PS Eyetoy for PS2, that's why they stopped supporting it, and started working on a remote control for it....they had the headtracking technology and depth perception, and could have started making games like the natal games, but they realized its not fun without a controller.

And it seems like Sony isn't sold on the idea of motion control yet. During their demo, they always reminded you about the possibilities of what they were doing inside hardcore games(like sixaxis support) and nothing they did was meant to be a standalone game, but microsoft was selling their idea as just a stand alone game, and as a stand along game, motion control is nothing more than a mini game. So, idk what microsoft is gunna do.

I believe Natal uses more of a point-cloud system rather than a straight up camera system. I might be wrong.

It'll let Natal differentiate more things easier. I am surprised, however, that it's taken Sony this long to come with interesting features for the Playstation eye.

I guarantee you that you'll be seeing more of this stuff in games coming out for the PS3 to encourage you to buy an Playstation Eye.

Well, technically since Sony had a console camera first, Microsoft didn't really need to have that whole 'trial and error' period that Sony had with the original EyeToy. They just saw what did and didn't work with the EyeToy and improved it for Natal.

I never understood why people thought this was a good idea. If you're turning your head to the right to check your mirror, then you're not looking at your screen, and therefore can't see what you're trying to look at.

Well it depends how much you have to move your head. Your eyes CAN look straight ahead while turning your head . . .

thats what i was thinking too. turn your head to the side, and how are you supposed to see the screen, lol?

Wow, that sounds pretty awesome, and definitely worth trying out at some point.

I'm a huge Gran Turismo fan, so naturally I'll be getting this.
