Check out this video from CEDEC 2009, showing off the physics upgrade to the PS3 Dev kits. Notice the reduction of the time it takes to carry out calculations.

I don't think its an upgrade. I think its just a demonstration of what's already there.

Well, it's more of a speed upgrade. It's not that they're allowing more to happen, it's just that the same things can happen with less effort by the system itself.

Ya I don't think its a speed upgrade. That's just what's already there. It says its provided as part of the PS3 Sdk. It doesnt say its an upgrade.

I wonder if that FPS they we're showing has anything to do with Sony's un-announced FPS game? I doubt it, but the weapon looks pretty cool.

It looked like Unreal tournament 3 to me.

This is not a upgrade as has already been said. The PS3 can do trillions of calculations a second. Basically Sony is just showing how far they can go with physics without even making the console sweat. If anything they could do so much more, but really all they were doing was showing some ideas and then showing how little time it takes. Considering the PS3 can do trillions of calculations like that a second, by showing that this takes 1.2ms on average shows that physics that would normally cripple a workload on come CPU's are merely classified as small fish by the CELL.
