It was recently revealed that Square Enix's NieR is actually two games - NieR Gestalt and NieR RepliCant, and it is implied that each is platform-exclusive to the Xbox 360 and PS3, respectively.

But what has interested gaming sites is that NieR RepliCant's heroine "Kaine" is, in fact, a hemaphrodite. She dresses to emphasize her female characteristics Bridget-style, though her attitude and speech patterns are said to be very rough and masculine. She is the partner to NieR, the game's protagonist.

There is, however, one detail that Square Enix has decided to make clear: that NieR Replicant's female character "Kaine," is a hermaphrodite ("futanari"). Magazine scans reveal that Kaine is a partner of Nier, the game's protagonist, who was bestowed with extra er, equipment due to demonic possession. Out of resentment for being bullied by others, she dresses to emphasize her female characteristics, though her manners, attitude and speech remain very rough and masculine.

It would be okay if she just kept half her clothes on.

Oh who are we kidding, this is Square we're talking about

... This isn't Square Enix-like at all. Not nearly conservative and mainstream enough.

But whatever. Jenna Angel keeps the place of my favourite video game hermaphrodite.

And isn't that really the true essence of Japan?

Not so much innovation as it is the natural step from all of the androgyny, it was bound to happen eventually.

*waits for the "The PS3 is much more mature, which is why it's not happening on the 360" comment.

Personally I'm not going to get into a character that looks like a chick and sounds like a man. Sorry, it's just too much of a mind *bleep* for me. I don't mind a chick with a dick, as long as she sounds like a damn chick.

Before anyone tries to school me on what a hermaphrodite is....I already know....I passed sex ed, thanks. But if she's going to emphasize her female qualities, she needs to get a damn voice coach while she's at it.

I think it has more to do with social views and that the character would be more accepted in Japan vs everywhere else, hence them being the PS3 character.

Most JRPG companies see PS3 as what you want when you develop a game for Japan and the 360 as what you want for a western release.

If she does have the deep voice, I'm going to be reminded too much of Doctor Girlfriend from Venture Brothers to ever be able to take the character seriously.

Naw, the 360 can't handle Kaine's extra... polygons, you need the Emotion Engine! j/k Yeah the futa was bound to happen over at Square Enix. Hell didn't preorders for that latest idolm@astubatory aid game on the DS actually skyrocket when one of the idols was confirmed to be a trap?

Aw don't worry, it's just "demonic possession".

something like this was expected from their game.

    so wait.
    wait wait wait.
being a woman, and acting how a man would normally act makes her a hermaphrodite? do these people know what hermaphrodite means?

Well if it's just a demonic posession that's making her manly, I'm good for it. With a chest like that, who'm I to complain?

      kik36 Sep 16, 09
I'm sure you'll complain when the demonic possession is rubbin up on you while you're trying to cop a feel on that chest!!!

"Is that a demonic possession in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?" LMFAO

As long as there isn't a gigantic bulge coming from her pants, I don't mind having a little eye candy.

Edit: Oh great, now she's fighting a gigantic lizard with tits. Gender confusion!
