We wait, we wait, and then we wait some more. For those gamers beyond the Sony hardcore, those not prepared to shell out $599 for a gaming system - most likely because an Xbox 360 is already appeasing next-gen needs - then the prospect of a PS3 price cut is likely what you're holding out for. The time may be approaching. Finally.

While talking to London’s Financial Times, Sony chief executive Howard Stringer has finally conceded that there is "no doubt" that consumers are wanting and waiting for a lower, more accessible price point. "That is what we are studying at the moment," he said in terms of the Japanese gaming giant actually introducing a much talked about PlayStation 3 price cut.

You know whats funny here its this:
    quote stringer
Stringer went on to also admit that Nintendo is a serious market rival due to the Wii’s profit-per-console positioning and its markedly cheaper retail entry point. While not commenting on the vast power differential between the PlayStation 3 and Wii, Stringer instead commended Nintendo’s successful business model "because it’s cheaper."
You know i could have sworn i said the same thing like 5 times in this place possible more. But all in all i knew there was going to cut it, he also states that
    quote
Industry analysts have predicted that nothing less than a $100 USD price cut to the PlayStation 3 (which presently retails at $599 USD) will have an impact on related sales performance when both the Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii are priced considerably lower on the retail scale as $399/$479 and $250 respectively.
So we can expect a $100 possible more cut from the ps3. Which is awesome. But the bad problem is there isnt a confirmed date. But at least we know it will happen.
He also notes that when he does release the official price cut, MS would un-doubtlessly make a price cut as well. But you know im not that worried since the ps3 will be cheaper all in all.

Sony is taking a big hit on each PS3 as it is now. I'm not sure they can cut the price by $100 until the hardware costs come down more.

Despite their losses per console sold they still most definitely need a price cut of some sort. It will be very interesting if the price cut is more than $100, which is sure to boost up the sales significantly.

Sony can cut the cost of it. They've started using the new 65nm processors now.

Don't forget though, they're one of the most powerful companies on earth. They control almost the entire music industry, and a huge portion of the movie industry, as well as all the electronics they make.

I agree with Quticb. They have the poweer to vut the price but they're not willing to to do that because, from my personal opinion, they will have less prfit from doing PS3 a great console.

And still, they're continuing to develop it like the new 750GB HDD. I mean, what the heck for you'll use it if you're already have 160GB HDD.
