An interview with Sony Corp. CEO reveals plans to reduce the cost of the PS3 to consumers by Christmas this year, as well as praising the business model and sales success of the Wii.

Naturally, given the significantly higher price of the PS3 over its competitors, the Xbox 360 and Wii, Sony are looking to reduce the cost of the PS3 to consumers, with a recent interview with Sony Corp.'s CEO, Sir Howard Stringer, revealing that the company is looking to "refine" the cost of it's current-generation console.

This article really shows off the gentle, supporting side of Sony, and proves they aren't plainly money hungry. Congratulating Nintendo and all. I'm glad this was found. Thanks CDorno. Now if everyone else would see this, I wouldn't be criticized for thinking Sony are good people. Anyways, the price drop is good, especially during Christmas time, where they will make huge sales.

I wonder how much of a price drop Sony will be looking at. Hopefully more affordable ie: $300 then again that's like a 50% cut so, highly doubtful about it being $300.

Highly doubtful? I would say not even a possibility. A $100 price drop would even be a reach, but possible.

I would worry that if Sony aren't careful an insufficient price cut might hurt sales, as people may believe it wouldn't be dropping further later and thus is unlikely to reach a massive number of gamers for a massive number of games.

This is going back and forth for way too long now. I'm certain that there won't be a price drop anytime this year, it just doesn't seem likely.

Man shut up. Can you please get out of the clouds and see its confirmed. Every other time its been said it was a rumor and wasnt confirmed by them. Now it has been confirmed, iLLmatic They said anything lower than $100 USD is not acceptable for sales increase. So expect 100 or possible more from sony.

I guess they'll give us price drop but it will take longer than my expectations. Probably this year or the next.

That's good news for me. With the PS3 being $600 it's like impossible for me to get one right now. Hopefully we'll see a $100 price cut or if I'm really lucky a $200 price cut on the PS3. Then I should be able to get one just fine.

lol I'm well happy. I'm glad I was patient (as well as not stupid enough to buy one when it had no games).

Hopefully by the time I get one, it will have some decent games as well as have dropped again.
