Resident Evil 5 became the best-selling Resident Evil game within a few weeks of it's release, so it's no surprise that Capcom have plans for a Resident Evil 6.
At this year's Tokyo Game Show, Capcom's Jun Takeuchi told Kotaku that they haven't yet decided who the producer of RE6 will be, so it sounds like Capcom either haven't started on RE6 yet, or are in the very early stages of production.

Osaka-based game company Capcom makes Resident Evil zombie games. With Resident Evil 5 shipping 5 million copies worldwide, damn skippy that Capcom is going to churn out RE6.

"Honestly", RE5 and Lost Planet 2 producer Jun Takeuchi told Kotaku, "the producer for Resident Evil 6 hasn't been decided yet." Takeuchi has previously expressed interested in a fresh take on the RE series. With Resident Evil 5, he spearheaded the implementation of a dual control scheme that allows players to play with more traditional RE controls or newer, tweaked ones.

What's the gaming world comoing to? RE5 the best selling RE? Man that almost makes me want to give up gaming

The only reason RE5 sold was because of RE4. And the fact that almost every RE game before it was great, NO ONE was expecting RE5 to be so.....disappointing.

I agree with Seeker X. As long as Jun isn't on board (or Mikami for that matter) then the next game can't possibly get worse. And Outbreak music? Yes.

Hell, make outbreak 3 already capcom. The time is right.

Jun Takeuchi -- *bleep* off, thanks.

Only thing I'd care about is bringing back Outbreak's music director.

      absolutely.

after what he did to RE5, I'd rather they just end this series.

The producer needs to be someone who actually understands the point of the series. Look, I thought RE4 was a great game and RE5 seems to be more of the same, but ultimately they are not Resident Evil games. They are action titles that by rights should have been released under a totally new IP, leaving the RE series to put emphasis on atmosphere and horror - elements the current RE games have completely abandoned.

Glad someone said it. Spot on, sir.
I don't want action like that in my Resident Evil -- that's what say, Lost Planet is for. That'd be like making Lost Planet 2 a horror game.
RE5 seems to be really over the top, though...a machine gun? C'mon. In what horror game or movie ever are you given a machine gun? That's such crap.

But shotguns and rocket launchers are ok? This series has always been about highly trained individuals with TONS of weapons at their disposal. They just have a little more ammo these days.

I know the giant snake and spiders were scary sure, but the new fast moving psycho farmers are way more threatening/scary than the zombies ever were. If you want to play as a defenseless schoolgirl, and be truly terrified, play Fatal Frame. The Resident Evil series has always been retarted in that way. It's basically like putting Rambo in Night of the Living Dead, it just doesn't work. Very entertaining though.

I've long found ammo in the RE series to be pretty limited. The rocket launcher was a bit absurd, but it wouldn't be a Capcom game without a little something like that..that said, if I recall, in RE1 you only got to use it once and it had limited ammo.
As for shotguns, well, I consider them a staple of horror games more or less, so I don't see the problem there.

          And I love Fatal Frame.

Well if they were to put those "psycho farmers" in a situation, say, like what RE1 and 2 were like, then you'd have a scary ass game on your hands. The Crimison Heads in the REmake were scary enough. I still jump when they run around the freakin corner.

          @ Kudzuka

S.T.A.R.S. was heavily trained for everything thrown at them. Thing is that training didn't involved "dealing with the undead" It was completely unexpected and the B.O.W.'s where more than enough to cripple S.T.A.R.S. in a single night.

When the virus spreaded through the city the mass infected where so overwhelming you really where helpless and vulnerable. Doesn't matter how much training you got, it was unexpected, almost unstoppable and left you in a state of even more helplessness. How can you a special member of the force not fight of these things? It means the B.O.W.'s are far more powerful than expected.

          THAT was Resident Evils magic.

You know what the irony of it all is? Shinji Mikami (creator of RE) was the person responsible for the gameplay change.

        That's insane.
Compare RE1/2 to 4/5 -- they're not even close to the same thing. *bleep* you, Mikami.

I hold the view that the Resident Evil: Outbreak games were before its time, and with a little bit of effort and energey, Outbreak 3 could be the definitive Resident Evil experience.

I loved the Outbreak series on the PS2. Sadly, it existing in a console online setting which was only developing, and lacked any of the features console gamers have today (in regards to online).

I want more Jill Valentine. NOT THE BLONDE BIRDWOMAN who dropped in for Chapter 5-3, and was on a PDA during 6-3. The woman lead of the series who ultimately got about 5minutes screentime.

Great minds think alike. I agree Jill seemed to be just "shoved" in to please us fans and even then they did the shoving wrong.

I also agree outbreak was before it's time and the way online gaming has evolved since then Outbreak 3 would be perfect. I mean if you look at the similarities between L4D and other online games and Outbreak you'd really be surprised they thought of that for an RE game all those years ago.

There is something people keep forgetting. This isn't just about shooting enemies OR the type of enemies. The classic RE's had more than just shooting, there was also exploration, puzzle solving, and item management.

And I'm not talking about "Should I take the shotgun or Machine gun?", I'm talking about: "Well there are Hunters everywhere ready to rape me, I need a Shotgun...running outta shells, lemme take the handgun and some clips...shit gonna have to sacrifice the herbs for 2 puzzle pieces!" kind of management.

Hell, I'm willing to bet most of the tension from the old games come from ammo conservation and item management. For if you *bleep* up big time, you might have to restart the entire game. Something like that you just can't find in the new games.
